Democrats officially flip Virginia Beach district for a net gain of 6 seats in the House of Delegates

VIRGINIA BEACH (December 13, 2019) – Republican incumbent Chris Stollle has called Democrat Nancy Guy to concede the race for the 83rd district in the House of Delegates. House Democrats declared victory on November 8th after election results showed Guy led Republican incumbent Chris Stolle by almost 30 votes. Unofficial results from the second day of the recount indicate that Nancy Guy has won by 41 votes.

“It is a great honor to represent Virginia Beach and Norfolk in the House of Delegates, and it is a responsibility that I do not take lightly,” Delegate-elect Nancy Guy said in a statement. “This election may have come down to a small margin, but as Delegate, I will be available and accountable to every resident of the 83rd district. I want to thank Chris Stolle for his years of service, and I look forward to representing our community in Richmond.”

Nancy grew up in a Navy family in the 83rd District and attended Thoroughgood Elementary and Cox High School. She holds a B.A. from The College of William and Mary with a B.A. and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. A public education advocate, she was elected in 1996 to the Virginia Beach School Board and was subsequently re-elected for a second term. She and her husband Richard have two children who are now grown and two grandchildren.

“Elections like this show that every vote truly counts,” said House Democratic Caucus Executive Director Trevor Southerland. “With the unusually high voter turnout over the past several election cycles, we have seen Virginians stand up and reject the regressive politics of the Republican Party to elect delegates like Nancy Guy who will fight for Virginia families.”

This year, Democrats won the majority in the Virginia House of Delegates for the first time in 20 years, holding 55 of 100 seats.
