I grew up in a trailer park in a working-class community.  When our major employer, a large manufacturing company, decided to close their plant, our local economy never recovered.  My mother did her best to provide for my sister and me, but as a single parent in an already hurting economy, she did not have the opportunities or training she needed to provide a better life for us.  Like so many families like mine – we could have used an Aunt Bee.  Despite tough odds, and with a lot of luck on my side, I managed to go to college but often found myself having to choose between textbooks and food – a choice that no student should have to make.

It took plenty of risks, had quite a few lucky breaks, and made many hard choices to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty into which I was born.  I am a firm believer in the value of hard work but, quite frankly, it should not be that hard.  I want a President who will fight to break down the structural barriers that make it too hard for families like mine to rise up and achieve their own small measure of the American dream; someone who will fight to ensure that our children do not need to mortgage themselves to obtain the tools they need to succeed; and someone who will fight for parents, like my mom, who just want to be able to put a roof over their families’ heads and hot meals in their bellies.  That is why, in my personal capacity and not on behalf of any organization I am associated with, I am endorsing U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren for President.

Senator Warren understands, better than most, the structural barriers that keep too many families in intergenerational poverty and has articulated the clearest vision to dismantle those barriers.  That starts by taking on the corruption in Washington.  Let’s face it – our government works great for billionaires and their friends.  They use their armies of lobbyists to rewrite the rules of the road to rig our markets and put American lives at risk.  Meanwhile, too many families are struggling to make ends meet.  Luckily, Senator Warren has a plan for that.  Her bold, big ideas are precisely what we need to get government working for ordinary folks again.

I ask that you join me in supporting U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren for President.  Together, our movement powered by bold ideas can make the kinds of big structural changes we need to keep the big boys honest and put power back in the hands of the people.
