Audio: Former Rep. Tom Garrett (R-VA05) Rips Current Rep. Denver Riggleman (R), Endorses Challenger Bob Good

“What a letdown on individual liberty and freedom and this is not what he ran as.”

This is hilarious – former Rep. Tom Garrett (R-VA05), who served for one term (2017-2018) in the House before a scandal led him not to run for reelection – just endorsed his successor (Denver Riggleman)’s Republican challenger, Bob Good. Check it out, below, including Garrett ripping Riggleman as supposedly cutting a corrupt deal to get on a plum House committee, and also betraying conservatives on “individual liberty and freedom” by voting to extend the Patriot Act. This is really going to be an interesting VA05 GOP convention on June 13 at the Tree of Life Church in Campbell County!

Speaking on his weekly radio show today, Former Congressman Tom Garrett endorsed conservative Republican Bob Good in the 5th District Congressional race against first-term incumbent Denver Riggleman. Broadcasting from his show, airing on WCHV every Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., Garrett, said “I am supporting Bob Good,” when questioned by a caller regarding Garrett’s preference in the contest.

In endorsing Good, Garrett cited Riggleman’s compromised votes on individual liberty and fiscal restraint, spending and his vote on the government shutdown. Garrett, one of the strongest conservative voices in the House Freedom Caucus during his time in Washington, also stated regarding Riggleman that “You don’t accidentally go to Washington as a first-term freshman and land on an ‘A’ fundraising committee. There’s a deal that’s been made. Denver goes to Washington and lands on the financial services committee, which is a top-tier fundraising committee…there was a deal made…if you look at the votes.”

Garrett went on to say “On individual liberty and freedom from surveillance…Denver broke ranks with the entire Republican delegation in Virginia in voting to extend…the Patriot Act, which literally allows for the warrantless collection of information. Garrett added, “What a letdown on individual liberty and freedom and this is not what he ran as.”

In response to this latest endorsement, Good is quoted as saying “I am proud to have received the support of our former Congressman. Tom Garrett has a record during his tenure in both State and Federal offices of standing strong on conservative principles.”

Tom Garrett served in Congress from 2017-2019 having served prior as State Senator (SD 22), Assistant Attorney General in the McDonnell administration and Commonwealth’s Attorney in Louisa County.

Bob Good, former Campbell County Supervisor, and senior athletics official at Liberty University, is running as a biblical and constitutional conservative against the moderate Riggleman. Good has emphasized strongly adhering to an originalist interpretation of the Constitution, preserving the nation’s founding Judeo-Christian principles, reforming immigration, and supporting President Trump’s America-first agenda, as his top priorities. Good has the support of over 60% of the registered delegates heading into the convention that will be held on June 13 in Lynchburg.
