1st Congressional Democratic Committee Pushes for Wittman to Resign
Outrage grows after Wittman sought to disenfranchise millions of voters
Fredericksburg, Va. — Today, the Virginia 1st Congressional Democratic Committee issued a resolution calling on Rep. Robert J. Wittman to resign from the U.S. House of Representatives “supporting efforts to undermine and/or overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.”
“Rep. Rob Wittman violated his oath of office by indulging in baseless claims of voter fraud, with the sole intent of trying to overturn the outcome of the presidential election,” said Matt Rowe, the Chair of the Virginia 1st Democratic Committee. “Rep. Wittman’s so-called ‘promise’ to help heal our nation and ‘work on solutions to America’s challenges’ ring hollow given his actions.”
The resolution condemning Rep. Wittman declares that he “repeatedly and recklessly parroted the falsehoods espoused by then President Trump regarding baseless claims of election fraud, falsehoods believed to undermine the election and incite supporters of the president to insurrection.”
Last month, Rep. Wittman voted against certifying the electoral votes from Pennsylvania, even after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and U.S. Supreme Court found no evidence of voter fraud or malfeasance in the election.
Congressman Wittman also signed on to a failed Texas lawsuit promoting unsubstantiated allegations that officials in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin unfairly changed their voting laws to prevent President Donald Trump from securing a second term.

Resolution Condemning the Undemocratic Actions of Congressman Rob Wittman in Support of Attempts to Overturn the Presidential Election of 2020
Whereas, free and fair elections, as prescribed by the Constitution of the United States of America, are integral to American democracy and the peaceful transfer of power,
Whereas, a free, fair, and secure presidential election took place on November 3, 2020,
Whereas, former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris were elected President and Vice-President respectively,
Whereas, the electoral college voted to elect former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris as President and Vice President, respectively, on December 14, 2020,
Whereas, no evidence exists to show that the election was fraudulent or improper,
Whereas, over fifty (50) lawsuits challenging the election were filed, and either lost or were withdrawn due to lack of evidence of election fraud,
Whereas, Congressman Robert J. Wittman (CD-1) signed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court of the United States in the case of Texas v. Pennsylvania, et al. in support of a Republican challenge to the election that would have effectively disenfranchised millions of voters,
Whereas, the Supreme Court of the United States dismissed said lawsuit,
Whereas, Congress met to certify the results of the Electoral College vote on January 6, 2021,
Whereas, the certification of the Electoral College’s vote was temporarily interrupted by an armed and violent insurrection at the Capitol that led to the death of five individuals and put the lives of the Vice President and members of Congress at risk,
Whereas, that armed insurrection was incited and encouraged by the words of the then President of the United States, Donald Trump,
Whereas, even after the violent armed insurrection at the Capitol, Congressman Wittman objected to the certification of Pennsylvania’s electors’ votes based on alleged and unfounded claims of voting irregularities,
Whereas, in the days between the 2020 presidential election and the inauguration, Congressman Wittman repeatedly and recklessly parroted the falsehoods espoused by then President Trump regarding baseless claims of election fraud, falsehoods believed to undermine the election and incite supporters of the president to insurrection,
Therefore, be it resolved, that:
1) We condemn the undemocratic actions of Congressman Robert J. Wittman in supporting efforts to undermine and/or overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election,
2) We call on Congressman Wittman to issue a written apology to his constituents for his undemocratic actions in supporting efforts to undermine and/or overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election,
3) We call on Congressman Wittman to immediately resign from his office as congressional representative for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District as, through the actions outlined above, he has flagrantly violated his oath of office, to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic…”
