MCLEAN, VA – Yesterday, Terry McAuliffe was joined by Senator Jennifer McClellan, Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney, Virginia Legislative Black Caucus Chairman Lamont Bagby and Henrico County Supervisor Tyrone Nelson for a small business visit and roundtable discussion at Ipanema Café in Richmond.
During his time as the 72nd Governor, Terry created 200,000 jobs throughout Virginia, and every Virginia locality saw drops in unemployment numbers. Terry bolstered Small Women and Minority-Owned (SWaM) businesses by creating a SWaM micro-loan program. Terry’s administration was focused on building a 21st Century economy that created good jobs and expanded economic opportunity for all Virginians.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made life harder for workers and small businesses. Businesses around the Commonwealth have closed, 180,000 Virginians have lost jobs, and a lot of those jobs won’t be coming back for several years. The pandemic has also forced women out of the workforce because of the high cost of childcare. And, because half of Virginia’s private sector workers have no access to paid family and sick leave, workers have had to decide between supporting their families financially and keeping their families safe.
