From the Democratic Party of Virginia:
Glenn Youngkin Promises to “Protect” Retiree Homeowners, Yet His Carlyle Record Includes Raising Rents and Forcing Seniors from Mobile Homes
Richmond, VA — Today, Glenn Youngkin gave a presentation on his Trumpian tax plan, which, as expected, would decimate public education funding and drive Virginia’s economy into the ditch. During his campaign event, Youngkin hypocritically called attention to the problem of rising housing costs — an issue he is very well acquainted with from his time at the Carlyle Group.
Youngkin stated that “we need to protect all homeowners… especially those retirees who are living on a fixed income.” Glenn also railed against costs impacting home values “without protecting our seniors, our first-time homebuyers, our affordable housing homeowners.”
Glenn should know a thing or two about raising rents and home costs on seniors, given his track record at the Carlyle Group. Glenn’s private equity firm unleashed devastating rent surges and price increases on mobile home owners, including seniors and retirees, who were then left to choose between putting food on their table, paying for necessary medicine and keeping a roof over their heads.
While Youngkin attempts to hide from his abhorrent track record, his past words remain clear:
“I will own everything that happened at Carlyle, because I was there.” —Glenn Youngkin
Instead of lying to Virginians, Youngkin should answer for his abhorrent track record at the Carlyle Group. As put by Judy Pavlick — one of the seniors whose lives were upended by Carlyle’s devastating rent surges — “they have no conscience.”
