Great work by Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn, House Appropriations Committee Chair Luke Torian, and to Virginia House Democrats in general on the passage this afternoon (see video and statement, below) of HB7001, the budget bill to allocate $4.3 billion in American Rescue Plan Act funds. In the end, the Virginia House of Delegates vote was 71-25 in favor, with all Democrats and 18 Republicans voting yes (despite House Republican leadership attacking it). As Speaker Filler-Corn put it in a statement:
“This historic budget will revitalize areas of our Commonwealth impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and will help us build back stronger. Virginians have experienced so much hardship in the last year and a half, and this budget sends a clear message to Virginians: we hear you, we are working for you, and we are building an even stronger Virginia in the process.”
