Just days after Republican Congressional candidate Jarome Bell went viral for his despicable call to “audit all 50 states” and arrest, try, convict, and execute Americans over the baseless lie that the 2020 election was stolen — Kevin McCarthy and Washington Republicans are silent and have still failed to condemn Bell’s reprehensible comments.
Bell’s disinformation and call to violence have faced condemnation from across the political spectrum, including former Republican Congressman Denver Riggleman, who called Bell’s statement “ignorant tripe.” So why won’t Kevin McCarthy and the NRCC rebuke Bell’s reprehensible comments and make clear his calls for violence have no place in Congress?
McCarthy and Washington Republicans’ silence come as just last month NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer wouldn’t rule out supporting candidates who attended the deadly January 6 insurrection — a move that opens the door for supporting extremists like Bell, who have called for executions based on lies about the results of the 2020 election.
“Jarome Bell’s reprehensible, viral call for violence based on disinformation about the 2020 election has no place in Congress — so why won’t Kevin McCarthy and Washington Republicans rebuke his dangerous rhetoric?” said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “Even after the deadly attack on our democracy on January 6, Washington Republicans are proving they’re willing to align themselves with far-right extremists like Bell who have lied about the 2020 election and shamefully called for violence.” |
