VA Senate President Pro Tem Louise Lucas Rips Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN) For Saying He’s OK with the Supreme Court Leaving the Question of Interracial Marriage to the States

As Sen. Lucas explains, "the case was called Loving v Virginia, it was over 50 years ago, decided unanimously," and "there are now Republicans in 2022 who want to revisit it"

This is today’s Republican Party for you…Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN) responding to the question, “So you would be OK with the Supreme Court leaving the question of interracial marriage to the states?”, as follows:

“Yes, I think that’s something ― if you’re not wanting the Supreme Court to weigh in on issues like that, you’re not going to be able to have your cake and eat it too. I think that’s hypocritical.”

As Sen. Louise Lucas explains, “the case was called Loving v Virginia, it was over 50 years ago, decided unanimously then and there are now Republicans in 2022 who want to revisit it.” Appalling and frightening, when you realized that – as Georgetown Visiting Professor Thomas Zimmer puts it:

This is about restoring and entrenching white Christian patriarchal dominance and authority in the local community, in the public square, in the workplace, in the family…The American Right is fully committed to this anti-democratic, anti-pluralistic project, and the Republican Party has a comprehensive strategy to put it into practice – especially at the state level where the reactionary assault is accelerating the most.”

Shuddderrr…
