Only weeks after MAGA extremist Yesli Vega faced blowback for her disturbing, false claim that pregnancy was “less likely after rape,” GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik announced her endorsement for the embattled candidate.
Stefanik joins the likes of Rep. Bob Good and Ginni Thomas by endorsing Vega, clearly comfortable to throw in her lot with the most extreme MAGA wing of her fractured party.
Vega’s comments aren’t just completely false, they should be disqualifying for someone who aims to represent millions of Virginia women whose rights are more at risk than ever before. Does GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik agree with Yesli Vega’s dangerous, ignorant claim that victims of rape are less likely to become pregnant?
“An endorsement from Elise Stefanik gives credibility to Yesli Vega’s offensive, obviously false assertion that women are less likely to become pregnant if they have been raped,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “As a leader of the Republican Party, Stefanik must go on the record saying whether or not she agrees.”
