From the Virginia chapter of the Sierra Club:
Governor Youngkin is running a misinformation campaign to undermine Virginia’s climate progress. A top item on his agenda is a harmful attack on the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a pollution reduction program that invests money into our communities by forcing polluters to pay money for polluting. RGGI not only creates revenue that’s dedicated to strengthening our homes and neighborhoods, it also strips away the right for utilities to financially benefit from over-polluting. RGGI has already raised over $400 million dedicated to community improvement programs like flood resiliency and lowering electric bills.
Bottom line, RGGI makes polluters pay, and our communities benefit from it. It really is that simple. Don’t be fooled by Governor Youngkin’s false claims and half-truths. RGGI makes our state a stronger, cleaner, more affordable place to live.
Tell Decision Makers: We deserve a pro-progress agenda, not a pro-polluter one.
We have 13 days to combat the lies pushed by Youngkin and his pro-pollution allies. The comment period is an opportunity to show state decision makers that we will not go back, not when we are the last line of defense for a climate and community protection program. Youngkin has no plans to replace the community strengthening funds that come from RGGI. We must fight Youngkins’ harmful attacks on our state.
Youngkin and his cronies believe they can get away with manipulating our state by delivering flat-out lies wrapped in empty promises, but we know better. We know that RGGI is good for our health, saves us money on our electric bills, and protects us from the detrimental effects of climate change. And we know we’re going to defeat Governor Youngkin and greedy polluters because, together, we’ve done it before.
Let Decision Makers Know: Communities and climate progress > pollution and dirty profits.
