Good news from the VA Senate Democrats, aka the “brick wall” stopping Glenn Youngkin and his anti-environment, right-wing allies from trashing Virginia.

Senate Democrats Stop Republicans’ Efforts to Remove Virginia From RGGI

Richmond, VA — Today Senate Democrats on the Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources Committee killed Republicans’ attempt to weaken our defenses against climate change by passing S.B. 1001 which would remove Virginia from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is a critical program for Virginia that protects our planet, provides resources for flooding, protects and improves the health of our children, and saves Virginia families money on their energy bills. Virginians overwhelmingly support RGGI and measures aimed at protecting our environment. A poll showed that Virginians support the state’s membership in the RGGI by a margin of 67% to 26%.

“Senate Democrats will not budge when it comes to protecting our environment,” said Senator Chap Petersen, Chair of the Senate Conservation and Natural Resources Committee. “The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is a critical program for Virginia that combats the negative effects of climate change. Senate Democrats will continue our work of stopping Republicans’ attempts to roll back environmental protections and ensuring we leave a healthy planet for our children and future generations.
