Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Urges Lancaster to Participate in 3 Local Forums, Not Just Right-Wing Sinclair Events
LEESBURG, VA: Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj’s campaign released the following statement on tonight’s interview of Elizabeth Lancaster on right-wing Sinclair Broadcasting’s WJLA-TV, and Lancaster’s failure to commit to attending local forums hosted by Loudoun County Democrats.

“Buta Biberaj has confirmed her participation in five forums to date to discuss her campaign for re-election as the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Loudoun County, and the need to continue to make progress with a smarter criminal justice system that has improved community safety in Loudoun County,” said campaign manager Chris Smith “These 5 forums are hosted by various Loudoun County community groups – and Elizabeth Lancaster has not yet announced a commitment to attend.

“We look forward to debating Ms. Lancaster in Loudoun County and hearing her explanation for why she voted for an anti-reproductive rights Republican for President, her admitted lack of management experience, her stated plan to bring back the Republican era prosecutors, and why she has failed to file the campaign finance reports required under law,” Smith added. “Our campaign, however, will not participate in a forum sponsored by the blatantly MAGA Sinclair Broadcasting network, which attacked Del. Sam Rasoul’s Muslim faith in its last Virginia debate, forced Virginia stations to promote climate denialists, and said it was ‘here to deliver Donald Trump’s message.’ Buta will always stand up for Loudoun Democratic values, and will not embolden Donald Trump’s favorite local TV network.”

Biberaj announced earlier this week that she will participate in three June campaign forums hosted by Loudoun County Democrats and community organizations:

  • Thursday, June 1 at 2PM: Ashby Ponds candidate forum, hosted by Ashby Ponds Democrats
  • Thursday, June 1 at 7PM: Meet The Candidates Night pre-primary program in Ashburn. Hosted by Loudoun County community based organizations, including the Loudoun County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Psi Rho Omega Chapter, First Church Sterling, Loudoun County National Panhellenic Council, NAACP Loudoun Chapter, Metropolitan Lodge No. 161, Leesburg Chapter, and the League of Women Voters Loudoun County.
  • Thursday, June 15 at 7PM: Meet The Candidates Night pre-primary program in Leesburg. Hosted by Loudoun County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Psi Rho Omega Chapter, First Church Sterling, Loudoun County National Panhellenic Council, NAACP Loudoun Chapter, Metropolitan Lodge No. 161, Leesburg Chapter, and the League of Women Voters Loudoun County.

Biberaj has previously participated in two candidate forums: The Loudoun Candidates Forum hosted by the Ashburn Democrats on April 30, and the Candidates Forum presented via Zoom for the Loudoun County Democratic Committee Membership on May 4.

Biberaj is the first woman ever and the first Democrat elected to Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney in decades. She is also the first Muslim Commonwealth’s Attorney in Loudoun County.

Throughout Biberaj’s leadership, violent crime, as reported by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, has decreased significantly. Violent crimes decreased by 31 percent between 2019 and 2021. And in 2021 alone, violent crime went down by 12.5 percent in the County, while it increased by 7.1 percent statewide.
