Team Salim Releases Website on Chap’s Full Voting Record
May 2, 2023
FALLS CHURCH, VA — Two days after incumbent Chap Petersen announced his “Common Sense Ticket” with Commonwealth’s Attorney candidate Ed Nuttall, the Saddam Salim campaign for State Senate in the 37th district released a website and social media ads that push back on Chap’s claim to have a long track record defending Democratic values.
“Recent mail to voters from Chap Petersen have touted his ‘record of standing up for Democratic values,’ and standing up “against the extremist policies of Governor Youngkin,'” Salim explained in a statement. “I thought it was important we review that record and talk about what he’s really been voting for and doing in the Senate.”
The website released by the campaign points out that Petersen is one of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate. It includes sections on Petersen’s record on gun violence prevention, workers’ rights, Confederate monuments, COVID-19, marijuana, LGBTQIA+ rights and sexual assault/harassment legislation.
“Petersen calls himself the ‘Common Sense candidate,'” Salim explained, “but how is it common sense to ask for the Democratic nomination when you vote against workers’ rights? When you won’t pass an assault weapons ban? You’re not a brick in the Blue Wall if you voted for Youngkin’s far-right extremist choice for the Board of Visitors.”

The website will also include videos about specific issues relating to Petersen’s record, including a video released today that pushes back on the assertion that this is a “common sense ticket.” Preview the video here:
