Excellent news from the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus and Virginia Latino Caucus, both of which are endorsing former Del. Lashrecse Aird for VA Senate in the June 20th Democratic primary over the disgraceful, not-at-all-reliable-on-reproductive-freedom incumbent Sen. Joe Morrissey. Go Aird – for all the reasons listed here!
Virginia Legislative Black Caucus and Virginia Latino Caucus Endorse Lashrecse Aird in Senate District 13 Democratic Primary
RICHMOND, VA – The Virginia Legislative Black Caucus and the Virginia Latino Caucus announce today their endorsement of former Delegate Lashrecse D. Aird in her bid for State Senate.
“For too long Joe Morrissey has portrayed himself as a savior to Black communities, while legislatively betraying them. It is crucial to have leaders in the Senate that not only represent the values of the districts they serve but will fight for those issues once in office. We have seen what happens when we don’t have Senators who share our values, vote inconsistent on critical priorities and make it their mission to stall legislation while voters suffer. Del. Aird served with distinction in the House of Delegates, earning numerous legislative victories in order to rectify policies that disproportionately harm Black families. We are confident that she will bring that same compassionate advocacy to the Senate and the voters of SD-13 deserve it,” said VLBC Chairman, Lamont Bagby.
“The Virginia Latino Caucus is proud to stand with Lashrecse Aird. More than ever, we need leaders who can strengthen the bond between the Black and Latino communities in Virginia. Time and time again, Del. Aird has proven herself to be that leader – we can trust her to represent District 13 in the Virginia Senate,” said VLC Co-Chair Alfonso Lopez.
In response to the endorsement, former Del. Lashrecse Aird said, “The Virginia Legislative Black Caucus and the Virginia Latino Caucus are vocal and effective advocates for the progressive policies we value here in Virginia. I am honored to have their endorsement and look forward to working with them to strengthen our schools, increase economic opportunities, cement reproductive healthcare access, protect our voting rights and prevent gun violence in our communities for all Virginians, but especially in SD-13.”
