See below for audio and highlights of Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA07), speaking on Deep State Radio, talking about Trump’s indictments for inciting the January 6th insurrection, etc.:

  • “To give a framework for my reaction [to Trump’s indictments], on January 6, I was…among those who were stuck in the House chamber during the attack on the Capitol...the worry, concern, fear, terror…chaos…police officers being beaten with American flags…it was just a horrible, horrible day…a really sad day for the United States…”
  • I remember what [some House Republicans] said on January 6th. I remember what they said in the days and the weeks after January 6th…some of the things they said very publicly and many of the things they said privately. And so it is deeply disappointing to see someone who I know feels a particular way or felt a particular way or knows that, you know, there were two choices on that day, and we have an example right? We have what former President Trump did, which is try to discount, upend…defraud the American people. And then we have what former Vice President Pence did, which is follow his responsibility, follow his commitment to the Constitution and do what was required of him and the oath that he took.”
  • “And so there were some people in the days after that were using their elevated voices as members of Congress to clearly put themselves in the camp of former Vice President [Pence] and…far too many have backed away from that. And I think it’s deeply disappointing, because it’s people putting their political priorities first ahead of anything else. And and the reality is if as many people who recognize his culpability, know what he did was wrong, would actually talk about it, they would be able to demonstrate leadership to their voters they would be able to say you know I know this might be unpopular but let me tell you why. And and we have I think examples of real political courage…the obvious ones are Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney but you know Tom Rice and Jamie Herrera Butler…And if more people would be honest with themselves and their voters and follow his lead or Jamie’s lead, then I think the country would be in a very different place.”
