The following ad by Virginia State Senate Democratic nominee Schuyler VanValkenburg, a teacher, applies very well to his race, of course, but also to just about every other State Senate and House of Delegates matchup, in most cases between an NRA “A”-rated Republican and an NRA “F”-rated Democrat. And yes, an “A” rating from the NRA is really, really bad, while an “F” rating from the NRA (as VanValkenburg got) is really, really good!  As for this ad, VA House Dems Leader Don Scott nails it:

“My daughter had to endure an active shooter drill during the first week of school! Teachers and students shouldn’t be afraid for their lives while trying to teach and learn. We can do better. Thank you @ScVanValkenburg for stepping up to teach and educate.”

And as Virginia Democratic State Senate nominee Stella Pekarsky puts it:

Great new ad by @ScVanValkenburg. There is so much at stake this year! Our kids should not have to live this way. My kids have been traumatized by these drills. They are scary, confusing, and create anxiety.”

So, starting this Friday, make sure you vote for Schuyler VanValkenburg if you live in SD16 (Henrico County), and for whichever Democrats are on your ballot – wherever you live.

NEW: Schuyler VanValkenburg Launches “Drill” Ad Highlighting Gun Violence Prevention

RICHMOND, VA – Today, Delegate Schuyler VanValkenburg launched a new ad, “Drill” across social media and television, to promote his mission to pass gun violence prevention laws and protect Virginians from the epidemic of gun violence. In the ad, VanValkenburg highlights his experience as a public school teacher and the trauma he has witnessed firsthand as our students are forced to participate in school shooting drills because of gun violence.

As an educator and father of three children, VanValkenburg knows that the safety and security of our students must be a top priority. He has a proven track record of supporting gun violence prevention by voting to ban assault weapons, pass “red flag” laws, and introduce common sense safe gun storage measures.

“Drill” can be viewed here. A transcript is below:

Schuyler VanValkenburg: “For my students, the fear of school shootings is always present – but this shouldn’t be normal.

When we spend hours practicing lockdown drills instead of learning, something is wrong. That’s why I voted to ban assault weapons and pass a red flag law.

We have to do more to protect our kids and to keep guns out of our schools. We owe it to them.”
