2026 Elections

Audio: VA07 GOP Candidate Doug Ollivant Says VA Sen. Tara Durant (R) Has a “Thin” Resume, “five years ago she was a part-time librarian”

Also: "I just don't think there's any world in which Tara beats Eugene Vindman in [November]"

Now that it appears 99%+ certain that this November’s US House elections in Virginia will take place using current maps, NOT the proposed new maps that Virginia voters approved on April 21 (but were struck down by a 4-3 partisan Supreme Court of Virginia decision), we can start focusing on some of the key primaries and general elections. For instance, while Rep. Eugene Vindman (D-VA07) should be in good shape for reelection given the (likely) deep-blue political environment this November (plus, the fact that he’s doing an excellent job), we shouldn’t just take it for granted, especially given that Vindman only won by a 51.2%-48.5% margin in November 2024.

So right now, it looks like Vindman will face either VA State Senator Tara Durant or Douglas Ollivant. For more information on Durant, see the following:

As for Douglas Ollivant, here’s a link to his website; also see here for his thoughts on a variety of topics, for instance claiming (absurdly, given all that we know about her) that Tulsi Gabbard is “a leader of character and integrity” (yikes, wuuuut?).  Finally, check out the following audio, from an Ollivant meet-and-greet in King George County in April, in which Ollivant shares his thoughts on his main Republican opponent for the nomination, Tara Durant. Kinda entertaining…especially after he says he has nothing bad to say about her, then does just that, lol.

  • Ollivant: “I like Tara very much. I don’t have anything bad to say about Tara, I just don’t think there’s any world in which Tara beats Eugene Vindman in the general.”
  • Question: “Why’s that?”
  • Ollivant: “Her resume’s just a little thin. I mean yeah, she’s a state senator, but five years ago she was a part-time librarian at the local Catholic school. Whereas like, you know, 20 year Army officer, I’ve got a PhD and an MBA…”

So…yeah, this should be a fun primary to keep an eye on; hopefully, Ollivant and Durant will really go after each other, making Rep. Vindman’s reelection this November even more likely than it already is.
