Encouraging new “internal” Democratic poll of VA01, courtesy of the DCCC – see below. What jumps out at me is:
- Incumbent Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA01) is below 50%, which is definitely a warning sign for a long-time incumbent. As the polling meme says, “After spending nearly 20 years in Washington, Wittman is stuck under 50% in the head-to-head – a flashing warning sign that voters in this rapidly Democratic-trending district are ready for change.”
- Democratic Shannon Taylor is essentially tied with Wittman (she trails by just 1 point in the poll, 47%-46%), with 7% undecided – and presumably with undecided voters more likely to break against the incumbent.
- Also: “Another warning sign for Wittman: President Trump’s support has cratered in the district, despite winning here by nearly 5 points in 2024. Just 37% of voters approve of the job Trump is doing, compared to 55% of voters who disapprove.”
So, bottom line: this is an “internal” poll, so take it with the appropriate grains of salt and all, but this race is absolutely winnable for Democrat Shannon Taylor in a “blue wave” or “blue tsunami” political environment – which looks at the moment to be highly likely for the next 43 days. But of course, we’ve got to all help Taylor win this thing, as having the POTENTIAL to win something doesn’t mean jacksh** if you don’t actually “run through the tape,” “leave it all on the field,” etc. 🙂
