Pathetic and disgraceful by Virginia House of Delegates Republicans! As Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Mamie Locke said, “Senate Democrats have held up our end of the bargain; however, House Republicans can’t or won’t do the business of the people while simultaneously burning their tax dollars.”

Senate Democrats Condemn House Republicans’ Waste of Taxpayer Dollars Following Special Session Stalemate

RICHMOND, Va.: Today, the Virginia General Assembly assembled with the intention of filling a vacancy for a Commissioner of the State Corporation Commission. However, despite months of negotiations with the House of Delegates Republican Leadership, no agreement was reached.

Majority Leader Dick Saslaw said: “Efforts to fill the vacancy on the State Corporation Commission were thwarted today after nearly a year of vetting possible candidates and months of negotiations. Republican leadership could not deliver on the shared list of agreed upon candidates, one of whom had mutual agreement between Democrats and some Republicans. Today’s session date was agreed upon in June with the express purpose of filling the SCC vacancy; it is unfortunate that today’s session resulted in no action despite taxpayers’ dollars being wasted.”

Caucus Chair Mamie Locke said: “House Republicans have wasted more than $40,000 in taxpayer dollars to call the General Assembly to Richmond today–a day agreed to nearly three months ago– without an intention to complete the work we are charged to do by our constituents. This outright affront to Virginians is an abhorrent breach of the oath each of us took when we were elected to the legislature. Senate Democrats have held up our end of the bargain; however, House Republicans can’t or won’t do the business of the people while simultaneously burning their tax dollars.”
