We Badly Need to Elect Buta Biberaj as Loudoun County Commonwealth's Attorney

See below for video and photos from this weekend’s “Women for Buta” event, in support of Buta Biberaj for Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney. I couldn’t agree more with Biberaj on this:

“We cannot ensure our community’s safety tomorrow by being fiscally irresponsible today. When we unnecessarily incarcerate non-violent offenders, we steal from our taxpayers. But when we find ways to actually address the underlying criminal behavior, we can create opportunity for both the offender and for our community. Instead of incarcerating him and sending the bill to our taxpayers, we can help him integrate with our society as a tax paying member of the community.”

In general, electing Buta Biberaj will mark a huge upgrade from the current Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman (R), who is moving to another job, and will be a much better choice for Loudoun County voters this November than Plowman’s hand-picked successor, Nicole Wittman (R). I encourage everyone to do everything they can to help elect Buta Biberaj, along with the rest of the Democratic ticket in Loudoun County!

P.S. For those who haven’t read my three-part interview with Buta Biberaj, it covers a wide range of topics and really demonstrates why we need to elect her – she’s brilliant and really “gets it” on criminal justice reform, the role of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, etc, etc.
