So let’s just be clear who Trump Virginia Chair Corey Stewart is attacking here.
[John Warner] enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II in January 1945, shortly before his 18th birthday. He served until the following year, leaving as a Petty Officer 3rd Class. He went to college at Washington and Lee University, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi, graduating in 1949; he then entered the University of Virginia Law School.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in October 1950, after the outbreak of the Korean War, and served in Korea as a ground aircraft maintenance officer with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. He continued in the Marine Corps Reserves after the war, eventually reaching the rank of captain.
…On May 4, 1972, he succeeded John H. Chafee as Secretary of the Navy…
…As the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he protected and increased the flow of billions of dollars into the Virginia economy each year via the state’s military installations and shipbuilding firms which served his reelection efforts in every cycle.
So yeah, Trump’s Virginia Chair Corey Stewart is attacking a man of enormous accomplishment, a member of the “Greatest Generation,” a U.S. Marine and former Defense Secretary, among other things.
And what has Corey Stewart done in his life? Presumably he’s served his country and is the antithesis of the “Washington Establishment,” right? Uhhh….no.
Stewart earned an academic scholarship to attend Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service, where he earned his bachelors degree in 1991…Stewart moved to Virginia in 1998 to begin his career as an international trade attorney with the Washington, DC office of Gardner Carton & Douglas. He then moved to the Washington office of Foley & Lardner until 2009, when he formed Stewart PLLC, an international trade and technology transfer firm.
And basically, other than that, he’s been a career politician, first running in 2006 and still running…for Prince William County Board Chair, for Lt. Governor of Virginia in 2013 (he lost), and now for Governor of Virginia in 2017 (he’ll almost certainly lose, probably badly).
Anyway, compare and contrast the careers of John Warner and Corey Stewart and judge for yourself who’s the greater man. Hint: I’d go with the U.S. Marine and former Senator, not the Trump Virginia Chair and all-around bully, blowhard and bloviator.
