RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia House Democratic Leader David J. Toscano and Caucus Chair Charniele Herring today released the following statement on Democrats’ successful efforts to flip two Republican-held state legislative seats last night in special elections in Florida and New Hampshire:
“Democratic victories last night in the bellwether states of Florida and New Hampshire bode well for our candidates this November. We have candidates running in 54 districts that Republicans currently hold, including in 17 districts that Hillary Clinton won in 2016. Our base is energized, organized and knocking on thousands of doors across the Commonwealth every single week. We’re talking to voters about the issues that matter to their families and communities, including access to affordable health care and adequate funding for our public schools. We encourage anyone looking to get involved to adopt a candidate in their area and help them knock on doors.”
The victories last night bring the total of state legislative seats that Democrats have flipped since Trump’s election to eight. Republicans have not flipped a single Democratic seat in the same time period. |
