Interesting endorsement by Rep. Donald McEachin (D-VA04), of former VP Joe Biden for President. As far as I’m aware, this is the second U.S. Representative from Virginia to endorse a 2020 presidential candidate, with Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA08) having endorsed Pete Buttigieg a few weeks ago…
McEachin Announces Endorsement of Joe Biden for President
Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) released the following statement announcing his enthusiastic endorsement of former vice-president Joe Biden for president in 2020.
“I have long been an admirer of the vice president,” said Congressman A. Donald McEachin. “His commitment to working people and to the dignity of work is unsurpassed. He was a staunch and steadfast partner to President Obama during his historic presidency. His devotion to everyday Americans and to a fair and honorable system serves as guideposts for our democracy.
“But, perhaps most importantly, I know he can defeat President Trump and that must be our first priority. When he launched his campaign last week he harkened back to that difficult moment in the Commonwealth’s history, when the ordinarily idyllic city of Charlottesville was taken under siege by white supremacists. To hear chants of ‘Jews shall not replace us’ instead of UVA’s ‘The Good Old Song’ was beyond frightening.
“As a UVA law grad, re-watching those marchers and torches, I was reminded once again that this is no ordinary election. As the former vice president articulated, our values and way of life is at stake. Our standing as an iconic nation that has been a beacon of freedom for the rest of the world is at risk every day under this current administration.
“And Vice President Biden understands that. He also understands that we must defeat someone who equates peaceable diverse protesters with Neo-Nazis and Klansmen. Mr. Biden can do it. He is our best chance to ensure that we reclaim America and that, together, we can then offer progressive, inclusive solutions to the many issues before us.”
