Anti-LGBT Virginia Del. Dave LaRock (R): Virginia “should not provide special rights or protections for ‘chosen sexual habits'”

"LaRock disputes the notion that discrimination should always be illegal and is always a bad thing"

Of all the far-right Republicans in the Virginia General Assembly, it’s hard to decide which one’s the worst, but Del. Dave LaRock (R-HD33) certainly makes a strong case for himself on a regular basis. For instance, as I wrote back in May:

“To get an idea of why I say LaRock is among the absolute worst, see Faaaar-Right, Rabidly Anti-LGBTQ Del. Dave LaRock (R-HD33) Promotes Dangerous Petition Claiming Transgender Equality Would “Endanger Our Children!”Virginia Del. Dave LaRock (Faaaar-Right R) Says Being Transgender a “Social Contagion,” Like Anorexia; Gets Pounded on His Facebook Page,  Rabidly Anti-LGBT Virginia Delegate Dave LaRock Absurdly Claims Loudoun County School Board “Lurches Left” Because It Opposes Discrimination, Supports Public Schools, Dave LaRock Spews Anti-LGBTQ Hate Straight From the House of Delegates and Talking to My Delegate: Dave LaRock (in which LaRock talked about how ‘beautiful’ discredited/harmful gay ‘conversion therapy’ is; refused to call Danica Roem ‘she’; etc.).”

So yeah, that’s what we’re dealing with here. But wait, there’s more! The latest from LaRock, courtesy of the Winchester Star, is a doozy (bolding added by me for emphasis)…

The Frederick County Board of Supervisors voted 6-1 to rescind a recent change to the county’s anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policy that protected lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) county staff from discrimination…

…[Republican Supervisor Blaine] Dunn said on Thursday that he was told by Republican Del. Dave LaRock, of Hamilton, who represents the 33rd District, that the county’s policy protecting LGBT employees was inconsistent with the Dillon Rule

…LaRock said in a phone interview on Thursday that the state should not provide special rights or protections for ‘chosen sexual habits.’...

LaRock disputes the notion that discrimination should always be illegal and is always a bad thing, claiming that employers discriminate based on intelligence or skill sets when they hire employees. He also said overweight people are often discriminated against by people hiring fashion models.

…“We do discriminate,” LaRock said. “We need to be able to discriminate based on if people are smarter or better suited for certain jobs. That’s just the reality.”

Yep, that’s Dave LaRock for ya, explaining why it’s actually very important to discriminate, why the state shouldn’t provide “protections for ‘chosen sexual habits’,” etc. Unfortunately, HD33 is a red district (54%-45% Gillespie in 2017; 50%-47% neo-Confederate Corey in 2018) . On the other hand, as Al Nevarez pointed out recently, LaRock is “running another lazy campaign” and is “being out-campaigned” by Democrat Mavis Taintor for Delegate. Plus, LaRock is Ken Cuccinelli/”Sideshow Bob” Marshall/Dick Black-level odious. So who knows, maybe there will be a “blue wave” big enough to oust LaRock on November 5? We’ll never know unless we try.
