With the 2020 Virginia General Assembly set to open for business on January 8, more and more legislation – good, bad and “meh” – is being filed. See below for some excellent bills, introduced today and yesterday, by Democratic Delegates Mark Levine, Cia Price, Hala Ayala and Marcus Simon, on a variety of topics, including: eliminating hospital emergency room “balance billing”; removing the Robert E. Lee statue in National Statuary Hall; holding special elections in the case of a tie vote (no more ceramic bowls, hopefully?); ditching photo ID requirements for voting; streaming/recording General Assembly meetings; joining the National Popular Vote Compact; allowing for same-day voter registration; eliminating the requirement that the race of married partners be included in the marriage record filed with the State Registrar; etc. Good stuff!
