UPDATE 1:07 pm – The Portsmouth City Council just voted 4-3 to terminate the contract of the City Attorney, Solomon Ashby. It then voted unanimously to appoint Burle Stromberg as Interim City Attorney.

More developments in Portsmouth early today, with the City Council meeting following the resignation of City Manager Dr. Lydia Pettis Patton. According to the Virginian-Pilot, Pettis Patton resigned “hours before council members held a special meeting to discuss her performance,” and just a few days after she “had temporarily removed Police Chief Angela Greene from her post amid controversy over criminal charges filed in the vandalism of a Confederate monument.” We’ll see what comes out of this meeting, which started off in open session and then almost immediately went into a closed meeting (to discuss the performance of the City Manager and City Attorney)…
