Jaime Harrison’s Dirt Road PAC Partners With DPVA To Launch Voter Registration Effort Ahead Of Virginia’s 2021 Election

Richmond, VA — Jaime Harrison, the 2020 Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in South Carolina, announced today that his Dirt Road PAC will partner with the Democratic Party of Virginia in a large-scale voter registration effort to aid Virginia Democrats in the 2021 elections. Harrison will work closely with the DPVA to register tens of thousands of voters after new voter registration numbers fell in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dirt Road PAC will make an initial five-figure investment in voter registration efforts in Virginia, which will specifically focus on communities and areas that campaigns have previously overlooked, with the goal of building grassroots networks of organizers and volunteers across the Commonwealth. Dirt Road PAC will also focus on educating Virginia voters about how to cast their ballot safely and effectively amidst the pandemic.

“As a former state party chair and DNC associate chair, Jaime knows the kind of work it takes to engage and educate communities to drive up turnout in elections, and voter registration is always the first step in that process. We’re thrilled to have Dirt Road PAC continue his vision by partnering with us to register thousands of new voters in what is going to be a critical election year in Virginia,” said DPVA Chair Susan Swecker.

“I’m proud to be partnering with the Democratic Party of Virginia to register new voters and empower Virginians to decide their own future. To win elections, Democrats need to show up all year, every year — not just in the weeks before Election Day. That’s why I’m glad to be working together with Susan and her team to register thousands of new voters ahead of next year’s consequential elections in Virginia,” said Dirt Road PAC Chair Jaime Harrison.

Data from VPAP shows that voter registration in 2020 lagged behind levels set during previous presidential election cycles. In June of 2020 for example, just 13,686 Virginians registered to vote, compared to over 23,000 in June of 2016. VPAP estimated that roughly 50,000 fewer Virginians registered to vote in 2020 compared to 2016.

Following his historic run for U.S. Senate in South Carolina this November, Jaime Harrison founded Dirt Road PAC to invest in state party infrastructure and grassroots organizing across the country. For more information about Dirt Road PAC, visit jaimeharrison.com.
