Virginia Constitutional Conservatives’ 2021 Candidate Survey Shows What’s at Stake This November

Richmond, VA — Republicans doubled down on their far-right agenda in a Virginia Constitutional Conservative “Restore Virginia Now” candidate survey, promising to defund Planned Parenthood, repeal Medicaid expansion, target LGBTQ youth and do away with protective red flag laws if elected.

As Glenn Youngkin and Republicans try to hide their secret far-right agendas from Virginians and pose as moderates, Nick Clemente, Tim Cox, Steve Pleickhardt and Mike Cherry proudly let people know where they stand on issues that would drag the Commonwealth into the dark ages and erase Virginia’s progress.

Takeaways from the candidate survey:

  • Nick Clemente (HD-10) called the restrictive Texas abortion law “Orwellian” but would vote yes to defund Planned Parenthood and limit access to abortion.
  • Tim Cox (HD-51) who has said transgender Americans are “gross and disgusting and unfit for service,” would support legislation that targets transgender youth who play sports and repeal protective red flag laws.
  • Steve Pleickhardt (HD-50) opposes abortion in all circumstances and would vote to defund Planned Parenthood and repeal Medicaid expansion.
  • Mike Cherry (HD-66) answered that he would not only support this dangerous agenda but he would “champion” the legislation through the House of Delegates.

“Republicans aren’t hiding their dangerous, far-right agenda for Virginia anymore. This survey is proof that if given the opportunity, Republicans would enact draconian policies to defund Planned Parenhood and restrict access to abortion, target LGBTQ youth and repeal Medicaid expansion,” DPVA communications director Jayce Genco said. “Elections have consequences and there’s too much at stake here in Virginia to stay at home on Election Day this November. We’ve come too far in Virginia and we’ve made too much progress to let Glenn Youngin and Republicans drag the Commonwealth backwards.”
