- Brazil Bolsonaro: Thousands protest calling for president’s removal (“A poll by the Atlas Institute suggested that 61% of Brazilians described his government’s performance as bad or very bad, up from 23% when he first took office in January 2019.”)
- Mass protests in Brazil call for Jair Bolsonaro’s impeachment (Bolsonaro is a fascist committing environmental crimes, among other things. A perfect match for Trump and Trump’s cronies.)
- Battle for the badlands — Yemen’s seven-year civil war could turn on fierce fighting in remote Marib province
- No more immigration: PM says Britain is in period of adjustment (Boris Johnson isn’t as bad as Trump or Bolsonaro, but he’s still a godawful excuse for a “leader”)

- Kabul University chancellor says female students will be allowed, but segregated
- Iran Told U.S. to Unblock $10 Billion to Start Nuclear Talks

- ‘Tragic and completely avoidable’: US hits 700,000 Covid-19 deaths (“Joe Biden laments ‘astonishing death toll’ as 100,000 die since June despite the availability of vaccines” Why on earth someone wouldn’t get a life-saving vaccine is mind boggling.)

- Friday Night Update from the ER in Arlington, VA: “Although the US exceeded 700,000 COVID deaths this week, new cases have fallen 25% over the last 2 weeks.” (“We are likely on the downside of the current surge.”)

- Think Biden is a “failed” president who can’t get re-elected? Consider Bill Clinton (“Biden will certainly be damaged if he can’t pass his big spending bill, but don’t write his political epitaph”)
- Harvard and Other Schools Make a Choice on Fossil Fuels (“We are confident that Harvard’s example will inspire still more colleges and universities to invest in the future that their own students — and all young people — deserve.”)
- The nihilism of Neil Gorsuch (“Trump’s first Supreme Court appointee’s radical vision to remake America, explained.” Gorsuch is a completely illegitimate Supreme Court Justice.)
- When Is a ‘Majority’ Not Actually a Majority? (“Equal state representation in the Senate necessarily means that a citizen in a low-density state has greater representation — and therefore political power — than a citizen in a higher-density state…With just the right amount of geographic, educational and racial polarization in the electorate, a party could control the White House and a majority of seats in Congress without ever winning a majority of votes in either a presidential or a congressional election.”)
- Democrats, don’t forget what got you here (“Now, Democrats are on the threshold of delivering transformative investments to both the country’s infrastructure and people. Internecine warfare over $2 trillion or $3 trillion is self-defeating. Thinking Democrats would settle for what they can get and, with Biden, come back for the rest following another good day at the polls. Or are war and mutual destruction better?”)
- Why Republicans Are Still Recounting Votes (“The point of the so-called audits is not so much to delegitimize the past election as it is to normalize unnecessary reviews of future ones—including, perhaps, a 2024 race in which Trump’s name may be on the ballot.”)
