From Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia:
Abortion is on the Ballot This Election Day
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia Reminds Virginians that they have the Power to Protect Reproductive Freedom
Richmond, Va – Today, as voters head to the polls to cast their ballots, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia reminds them that one vote could be the difference between a pro-reproductive rights majority and an anti-abortion trifecta that would ban abortion.
Statement from Jamie Lockhart, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia:
“Today, all eyes are on Virginia as voters cast their ballots in our first state legislative election since Roe v. Wade was overturned. Virginia is the last defense against abortion attacks in the South. Nearly all of the southern states between Virginia and New Mexico and most of our immediate neighbors have abortion bans. Virginia is now a key access point for patients seeking care.
But make no mistake, if anti-abortion politicians win a trifecta, they will ban abortion. This is our last chance to prevent Governor Youngkin from “happily and gleefully” signing an abortion ban into law. Abortion is on the ballot today.”
A recent Washington Post-Schar School poll found that about three out of four Virginia voters want abortion laws to be less strict or remain the same. Poll results from The Wason Center at Christopher Newport University similarly found that abortion is one of the top issues for voters and that they want to keep abortion laws the same or less restrictive. Nationally, Americans overwhelmingly support protecting access to abortion.
