HENRICO, VA – Today, Henrico County’s top prosecutor and candidate for Congress Shannon Taylor slammed Congressman Rob Wittman for being one of the most prolific stock traders in all of Congress.
“Rob Wittman is one of the most prolific stock traders in all of Congress, boosting his own bottom line while Virginians pay more for everything from gas to groceries,” said Taylor. “You don’t have to take my word for it: Wittman was once again caught playing the stock market in Congress just days ago. He is part of the culture of corruption in Washington that Virginians are sick and tired of.”
“After years of trading millions of dollars in stocks and getting richer at the expense of his constituents, Wittman now wants to cover his tracks,” Taylor continued. “We will prosecute the case against his corruption and hold him accountable when we beat him at the ballot box in November.”
Over nearly 20 years in Congress, Wittman has ballooned his net worth more than 40 times over, from $200,000 to $8.1 million, in part by trading more than $2.5 million in stocks — including in defense contractors and pharmaceutical companies while sitting on the committees that oversee them. He was previously flagged for violating federal disclosure law by reporting stock trades late, and just this month reported his first trade since that violation.
According to Dogwood, Wittman recently reported trading up to $15,000 in stock in Crown Castle Inc., marking his first reported stock transaction since 2023.
Taylor has made cleaning up corruption in Washington and holding politicians like Rob Wittman accountable a defining issue of her campaign. As part of her “Serve the People First” agenda, she supports banning members of Congress from trading stocks, instituting a lifetime ban on members of Congress becoming lobbyists, and mandating real jail time for politicians who break the public trust and abuse their office. Taylor has also pledged not to take a dime of corporate PAC money in her campaign or in Congress.
