Fmr. Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA02) Slams “corrupt Jen Kiggans [R-VA02] and Mike Johnson” for “meet[ing] with wealthy donors today” in Hampton Roads

UPDATED 2:50 pm  – Check out the video from CSPAN of Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA02) and Speaker Mike Johnson spewing out lies, distortions, hysteria (“COMMUNISM!”) a little while ago in Virginia Beach. Clearly, these people are freaking out, and for good reason, as a “blue wave” if not “blue tsunami” appears to be getting ready to roll over these MAGA extremists who are doing so much damage to America – and in Kiggans’ case, to VA02.

• First, check out the video clip of Kiggans falsely claiming that former Navy Commander Elaine Luria – a moderate Democrat by any definition – somehow represents “craziness,” “communism,” “socialism” etc. Also, Kiggans falsely claims that Luria “made $21 million inside stock trading” (in fact, according to this New York Times article, “Kiggans’s campaign did not point to any instances of insider trading, which is illegal, when asked about the allegations.” In fact, as the article quotes the Luria campaign, “Elaine supports banning congressional stock trading and preventing politicians from using their public offices for private gain.”  As if that’s not bad enough, Kiggans also wildly distorts why Democrats pushed to redistrict Virginia, which was literally 100% in response to Trump and his Republican Party attempting to gerrymander Democrats out of existence in “red” states. Kiggans also spews the flat-out lie, from the far-right fever swamps of the internet, about “51 new tax increases” by Democrats in Richmond – something which absolutely didn’t happen, has been debunked a gazillion times, yet right wingnuts like Kiggans keep on spewing it. Finally, and maybe most hilarious and pathetic, Kiggans actually has the gall to claim that “Republicans are delivering on security and prosperity”; if that’s not the textbook definition of “gaslighting,” what is??? My god…

• Next, check out this clip from Speaker Johnson, who said that “Virginia’s second district will determine the fate of the country because this will be a close election.” Now for once, there’s some truth coming out of Johnson’s lying mouth and off his forked tongue, because yes, VA02 is a crucial “swing” district, which Democrats absolutely can and *must* win this November if we’re going to take back the US House and end Johnson’s disastrous Speakership. And yes, it could be close, but let’s work to make sure that Elaine Luria wins BIG, ending Kiggans’ disgraceful political career and sending her into well-deserved political obscurity.

I could go on all day with this, of course; Kiggans is just THAT awful. Anyway, so now she’s campaigning with Mike Johnson, who’s arguably the worst Speaker in US history, having done enormous damage to the US House (so much for being a coequal branch of government!) and to the country due to his 100% failed leadership, kowtowing to Trump, etc. Sowhat does it say about Kiggans that she’d actually want Johnson to campaign for her?  Among other things, Kiggans – as the Luria press release points out – doesn’t care that the Republican-controlled Congress’ utter failure to stand up to Trump’s horrendous policies means “Hampton Roads is paying the price.” This fall, fortunately, Hampton Roads’ voters get to weigh in about how they feel about those horrendous policies, which Kiggans has supported withut the slightest peep of protest…

Kiggans votes with Trump 100% of the time 

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – 20-year Navy veteran,former small business owner, and former two term member of Congress Elaine Luria released the following statement today on vulnerable incumbent Jen Kiggans and Speaker Mike Johnson, Donald Trump’s biggest supporters in Congress, campaigning together today in Hampton Roads as working Virginians are paying more for their groceries, health insurance, and energy due to Johnson and Kiggans’ failed leadership:

“As corrupt Jen Kiggans and Mike Johnson meet with wealthy donors today, working Virginians are seeing their gas and grocery bills skyrocket, their friends and family members in uniform sent to fight in another foreign war, and their healthcare taken away to pay for tax cuts for billionaires,” Elaine said. “Kiggans and Johnson refuse to stand up to Donald Trump, and Hampton Roads is paying the price.”

The result of Jen Kiggans’ and Mike Johnson’s failed leadership:

• WAVY recently reported that Virginia families have spent an average of $2,900 more for basic, everyday goods due to Donald Trump and Jen Kiggans’ disastrous cost-spiking policies.
• Grocery prices spiked at their fastest rate in four years and inflation reached its highest level in nearly three years as Jen Kiggans and President Donald Trump’s war in Iran and failed policies continue to squeeze Virginians.
• Virginians will see a 20% increase in ACA premiums due to Mike Johnson and Jen Kiggans allowing the tax credits to expire.
• Last month, the U.S. lost 23,000 jobs with reported gains in previous months being revised downward according to The New York Times.
• Southampton Medical Center in Franklin is at risk of closure due to the devastating cuts in the One Big Beautiful Bill.
• The Hampton Roads economy faces uncertainty due to federal job losses that Kiggans celebrated and high housing costs burdening residents.

Kiggans has established a pattern of promising Virginians one thing in public, only to turn around and vote the other way in Washington. Kiggans lied when she promised to protect access to health care, only to turn around and vote for the largest cuts to Medicaid in history. Kiggans lied when she said she would extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits, but then voted to allow health care premiums to skyrocket. Kiggans lied again when she promised to protect clean energy tax credits, but then “flip-flopped” and voted to take a “sledgehammer” to the credits instead. Kiggans has voted 100% of the time with Donald Trump – demonstrating that she puts her D.C. party bosses ahead of the Virginians she claims to represent.

She has said she “couldn’t be a stauncher supporter” of the Iran war and voted against bipartisan resolutions in March and April to end it. Last month, she voted for the fifth time to continue the war despite the deaths of four American service members in Iranian attacks. In June, Kiggans was caught red-handed scrubbing “parts of her campaign website discussing the cost of gas and the economic struggles of Virginians,” as gas prices soared.

Kiggans was a major proponent of DOGE even as the agency wrecked Virginia’s economy and hurt veterans. Local media reported that “Kiggans embraced the program from the outset” and even said DOGE was “so necessary.” It has been reported that Kiggans’ backing of DOGE led to “the termination of more than $8.3 million in grants and leases tied to the district, including funding streams connected to veterans services and facilities.”
