As you can see from the following video, the herd of raw milk lovers (and property rights advocates, and one woman who somehow managed to compare this to abortion – don’t ask – and another who said her child only ate bread crumbs and milk – seriously) speaking out against “Big Cheese” Sen. Mark Obenshain’s raw milk/herd share bill yesterday in the Senate Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources Committee were udderly opposed to the bill. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that some of them were close to having a cow about it (maybe some needed to curd their enthusiasm a bit?), although most just wanted mooooore raw milk. In the end, they helped steer (get it?) the committee in the direction they wanted, as the bill bought the farm on an 8-7, biparmesan vote. In the end, although in some ways I could watch this type of testimony ’til the cows come home, at times I felt like the committee should have just said, hay, let’s move on to greener pastures. And yeah, I know this diary – or is it dairy? – was super cheesy, but check out the video and you’ll see why it’s so tempting to milk this stuff. 😉
P.S. In all seriousness, check out the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, which warns that ” Raw milk can carry dangerous germs, such as Brucella, Campylobacter, Cryptosporidium, E. coli, Listeria, and Salmonella, which can pose serious health risks to you and your family.” Also see the U.S .Food and Drug Administration website, which says, ” the bacteria in raw milk can be especially dangerous to people with weakened immune systems, older adults, pregnant women, and children. In fact, the CDC analysis found that foodborne illness from raw milk especially affected children and teenagers.” And that’s no bull!
