Here are a few national and Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Monday, September 10.
- Sweden’s ruling party hits election low as far right grows (The rhetoric of the far-right “Sweden Democrats” on immigration sounds very similar, actually, to Corey Stewart’s.)

Sweden, population 10 million, has received 600,000 immigrants in the last five years, many of them in the unruly wave of 2015 and 2016. If this is all the Sweden Democrats can do with this momentous, highly visible influx, which has recently shown signs of subsiding, then Sweden is xenophobia-resistant enough to make far right dominance dreams unrealistic. “)

- Trump Claims Credit for the Economy. Not So Fast, Says Obama. (I’d say that to the extent we can assign credit or blame about the economy to presidential leadership, Obama deserves around 95% of the credit for where we are at now compared to when he took office during the depths of the “Great Recession,” while Trump deserves perhaps 5% for not screwing it up…although give it a little while, as he’s trying hard to do just that.)
- CBS chief executive Les Moonves is departing amid probe into allegations of sexual misconduct (Good riddance. Meanwhile, we have a person against whom there are numerous allegations of sexual misconduct in the White House. As our “president.” Un-be-friggin-lievable!)
- The stress on Trump’s machine (“It’s hard to overstate the extremity and variety of pressures bearing down on President Trump and his understaffed White House.”)
- The Rule of Law Is Now Debatable (“With Donald Trump as president, unambiguous first principles have become ‘political controversies’ that a Supreme Court nominee must avoid.”)

- Kavanaugh, the NYT op-ed, and the failure of Trump-skeptical Republicans (“Some Republicans know Trump is a menace — but can’t bring themselves to act.”)
