VA GOP Gubernatorial Nominee Glenn Youngkin Launches “disgusting attack against trans kids in the Commonwealth – and on the 1st day of Pride Month”

Del. Lopez: Youngkin is another example of Republican politicians who "care more about their fundamentalist base than serving students in need"

The media’s working overtime to try and “normalize” Glenn Youngkin as a “moderate” or whatever bulls***, but he’s absolutely not – and there’s no way anyone could think that if they’ve been paying the least bit of attention to the Virginia governor’s race so far. Because, in fact, Youngkin has been hard-right and Trumpian almost down the line, such as:

  • Going all-in on voter suppression, launching an “election integrity task force,” which “winked at the ‘big lie’ and his party’s Trumpist base,” while “feign[ing] ignorance of recent history and the GOP’s role in it.
  • Tweeting about extremist bigot and all-out Trumpster Rush Limbaugh: “So sorry to hear of Rush Limbaugh’s passing today. We’re praying for his family and those to whom he meant so much. Thank you Rush for your leadership and service.”
  • Listing his priorities for Virginia as follows: “I will rebuild Virginia’s economy, protect our Second Amendment rights, and defend the lives of unborn babies.” On that latter point, on May 8 Youngkin tweeted: “As your governor, I will protect the rights of all born and unborn Virginians. If you believe in life as strongly as I do, come out and vote today!”
  •  Asserting that “I’m a lifetime member of the NRA” and that the Second Amendment is “absolute!
  • Being endorsed by the odious, extremist Sen. Ted Cruz, who he campaigned with and said “Nothing beats having my good friend, Sen. @tedcruz with me on the trail as we try to take Virginia back.
  • Stating that he was “honored” to have been endorsed by Donald Trump, adding that  “Trump represents so much of why I’m running” and refusing to separate himself from Trump in any way (“8News asked Youngkin twice if he would separate himself from President Trump in any areas. He didn’t provide any examples. While he denounced the attacks on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, he didn’t directly blame Trump for inciting the violence.“)

Now, Youngkin’s calling on the Loudoun County School Board “to reinstate Tanner Cross fully because they have absolutely ignored his constitutional rights.”  Currently, Cross is on administrative leave “after telling the school board he could not abide by its proposed policy on transgender students, claiming that the policy “would ‘damage’ children and it would be against his religion to follow it.” That policy, by the way, simply states that “staff shall allow gender expansive or transgender students to use their chosen name and gender pronouns that reflect their gender identity without any substantiating evidence.” So that’s what Youngkin’s focused on these days – as Virginia House Majority Whip Del. Alfonso Lopez puts it, “a disgusting attack against trans kids in the Commonwealth – and on the 1st day of Pride Month,” no less.  As Del. Lopez says, Youngkin is “another in a long line of VA GOP candidates who care more about their fundamentalist base than serving students in need.
