Today in Abingdon, more than 50 community members came out in force to send a simple message to Ed Gillespie: “Any friend of Trump-Pence is not a friend of Appalachia.”
At a demonstration on Main Street, community members protested Ed Gillespie’s refusal to stand against the Trump-Pence agenda — and his stunning silence on the President’s efforts to sabotage health care markets and take away Virginians’ health care.
“Ralph Northam has an economic plan to create jobs in Southwest Virginia. He believes that everyone needs access to affordable, quality health care,” community member Mary Lynn Tate told the crowd. “In stark contrast, Ed Gillespie has refused to even take a position on Donald Trump’s new executive order which will raise health care costs and cause Virginians to lose care.”
  
Trump and Pence ran on a platform of “draining the swamp” and standing up for working Americans. But since taking office, they have effectively betrayed Southwest Virginia by proposing massive tax cuts for the rich, sabotaging our health care, and trying to cut public schools and economic development programs.
Earlier in the day, Ralph Northam held a roundtable on job creation with Vice President Joe Biden. There were no protesters at the event.
