Dr. Vanessa Tyson, speaking earlier this evening at a Stanford University symposium entitled, “Betrayal and Courage in the Age of #MeToo,” had a lot of interesting, powerful, perceptive, important things to say (see video, below). While Dr. Tyson didn’t speak DIRECTLY about the sexual assault allegations she’s leveled against Virginia LG Justin Fairfax, a great deal of what she talked about – sometimes very emotionally – could be heard on at least two levels. For instance, Dr. Tyson said:
- “There is a recurring theme….when women come forward, of this deliberate attempt to undermine that person’s credibility”;
- “Sometimes you have to lead by example, no matter how hard it is”; and
- “Cognitive liberation of sexual assault survivors…the hardest part of this whole dynamic is you’re made to feel alone, you’re isolated, you think you can’t tell anybody…that’s the most important part of #MeToo…on average it would take 3 or 4 women to come forward before a perpetrator would be held accountable for his actions.”
