Trump administration knew of intelligence, did nothing about it, and still pushed for Russia to reenter the G-8, according to US Intel reports published by the NY times.

STAFFORD, VA – Yesterday, Americans learned of the stunning news that Russia had secretly offered Afghan militants bounties to kill U.S. Troops. To compound these reports, the Trump administration had this intelligence in hand in March of 2020, was fully aware of Russia’s efforts, did nothing to hold Russia accountable—and publicly pushed for Russia and Vladimir Putin to reenter the G-8.

After what seems to be another unfathomable low for this administration and a breach of public trust and national security, Qasim Rashid urged House GOP and his opponent, Congressman Rob Wittman, to finally stand up for Virginians and hold this administration accountable. “Over 100,000 veterans and military family members live in Virginia’s 1st District,” said Rashid. “To think that our own government sat idly and potentially allowed our service members’ lives to be held at bounty violates every pillar associated with public trust, leadership, and patriotism for our nation. I urge Congressman Wittman to stand with Americans and with our military service members and condemn this outrageous violation of national security and public trust. I have long advocated for our troops to be treated with dignity and respect—this news flies in violation of those values. Congressman Wittman can surely agree that President Trump must act immediately to hold Russia accountable, and apologize for normalizing and enabling this behavior from an adversary.”

In a time of great division and polarization, moments like this remind us that certain issues—like condemning a hostile nation’s attacks on our service members—should not be made partisan. As a human rights lawyer, Qasim has worked with the United States Government to improve national security here at home, while upholding the US Constitution as the supreme law of the land. Congressman Wittman has taken an oath to serve and protect Americans and it is imperative that he steps up and condemns this administration’s indefensible actions.

Qasim Rashid is a human rights lawyer who has dedicated his life to supporting women who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and to serving children from vulnerable communities. Qasim is running to transform his advocacy into results for the working families of Virginia’s 1st District. He believes in service, leadership, and compassion through action.
