ELEVEN HAMPTON ROADS OFFICIALS ENDORSE ANDRIA MCCLELLAN FOR LT. GOVERNOR

Leaders highlight collaborative, roll-up your sleeves and get things done attitude and experience

Norfolk, Virginia – Today, Andria McClellan announced the endorsement of 11 Hampton Roads leaders to serve as Virginia’s next Lieutenant Governor.

“In a region as interconnected as Hampton Roads, we know that working together must be a priority. Time and time again, Andria has been at the forefront of regional efforts to advance our shared progressive values, like transit access, affordable housing and economic development,” said Portsmouth Councilwoman Lisa Lucas-Burke. “I know that her collaborative leadership style will serve her well as our next and first female Lieutenant Governor.”

“As a doctor, business owner and former teacher, I’m endorsing Andria McClellan because she’s a servant leader. It does not matter how big or small the project is, Andria works hard to get it done because it benefits her community,” said Dr. Patricia King, Chesapeake School Board Member. “I know she’ll bring that same passion to her work as our next Lieutenant Governor.”

“Andria successfully represents some of the most vital interests of our region and our state. From the Port of Virginia, to ODU University, several historic museums, an ocean front, Norfolk Naval Station and the chamber of commerce. Her understanding of what makes our cities and our regions an integral part of our statewide success will benefit all of us as Virginians,” said Tiffany Boyle, Commissioner of Revenue for the City of Newport News.

Additional endorsers include:

  • Sheriff Joe Baron (Norfolk);
  • James City County Commissioner Ruth Larson;
  • Virginia Beach Councilman Guy Tower;
  • Norfolk Councilman Paul Riddick;
  • Ben Davenport, former Virginia Beach Councilman;
  • Clerk George Schaefer, Norfolk Circuit Court;
  • Louisa Strayhorn, former Virginia Beach Councilwoman, School Board member and Director of the Virginia Department of Business Assistance; and
  • Dr. Noelle Gabriel, Norfolk School Board member.

“I’m honored to have the support of these leaders. Having worked with them over the years, I know that they are passionate about serving their communities and building a brighter future where everyone has access to a safe, bright and prosperous future,” said Andria McClellan, Norfolk Councilmember and candidate for Lt. Governor. “In Hampton Roads, we know that our success is tied to the success of our neighbors, near and far. By working together on big issues like access to affordable Internet and quality transit, we are building that future in Hampton Roads and I will bring that experience of collaborative leadership to the Lieutenant Governor’s office.”

Previously, the McClellan campaign has announced the endorsement of Second District Congresswoman Elaine Luria, former Congressman Glenn Nye (VA-02) and State Senator Lynwood Lewis (SD-06). Andria McClellan has also won the endorsement of Susan Platt, a 2017 Lt. Governor candidate who garnered more than 200,000 votes.

Here’s what Hampton Roads leaders are saying about Andria McClellan, her work and her campaign.

Louisa Strayhorn, former Virginia Beach Councilwoman and Director of the Virginia Department of Business Assistance, said, “It’s no secret that the COVID-19 recovery will take years. Once we get vaccines to all Virginians, the real, hard work of rebuilding and strengthening our economy and healthcare system begins. We need leaders like Andria who understand both business needs and policymaking to help lead us through these challenges and toward greater equity and opportunity for all.”

“Over the last 5 years, I’ve seen Andria work hard for her constituents and Norfolk families. Her ideas are innovative, solutions-driven and focused on equity,” said Norfolk City Councilman Paul Riddick. “While I’ll be sad to lose her as a Council colleague, I can’t wait to work with Lieutenant Governor Andria McClellan to get big things done.”

“I have worked with Andria on important education topics, such as making school buildings more energy efficient to offering increased dual enrollment opportunities for our high school students. She has consistently supported our local public schools by voting to support funding needed for teacher raises, guidance counselors, and math and reading specialists,” noted Norfolk School Board Member Noelle Gabriel, MD. “I believe she will be a Lieutenant Governor who prioritizes education because she understands the value of what a high-quality equitable education can do for all of Virginia‘s children.”

“Andria McClellan is the rare candidate who understands statewide issues as well as the concerns of local government. Whether it’s trash collection or climate change, her pragmatic grasp of the role of government in our lives is sorely needed in Richmond,” added George Schaefer, Clerk, Norfolk Circuit Court.

“I deeply appreciate Andria’s effective public service. She makes life better for our community with her passionate, practical approach to problem solving. Andria has the heart and the mind of a leader who’s up to the challenge of governing our big, complicated Commonwealth. She should be our next Lieutenant Governor,” said Virginia Beach Councilman Guy Tower.
