“This seat is critical to ensure that we can protect the rights of women’s reproductive health care.” – Councilman Aaron Rouse

“If we’re successful in Senate District 7 and a pro-life champion comes out as the senator there, we’ve got the opportunity to move pain-capable protections forward and get them through to Gov. Youngkin’s desk.” – SBA Pro-Life America.

RICHMOND, VA – Today, in a recent article in POLITICO, highlighted how the special election in Senate District 7 will play a critical role in the fight to protect abortion rights in Virginia.

National anti-abortion groups view this race as a way to get an abortion ban to Governor Youngkin’s desk. In the article, SBA Pro-Life America’s Vice President said:

“If we’re successful in Senate District 7 and a pro-life champion comes out as the senator there, we’ve got the opportunity to move pain-capable protections forward and get them through to Gov. Youngkin’s desk.”

Kevin Adams, the extremist Republican anti-abortion candidate, has made his commitment to banning abortion very clear. On his website, he claims he is 100% anti-abortion and would support an abortion ban that would send women and doctors to prison if elected to Virginia’s Senate.

In stark contrast, Aaron Rouse, a former NFL Player and current City Council member, has always been a staunch defender of reproductive rights and will continue protecting women’s reproductive health care in the Senate. If elected, Rouse will ensure Republicans’ extreme attempts to ban abortion will fail.

A special election for the Virginia state Senate is drawing big dollars and national attention in the latest sign of how the abortion issue is driving every level of politics in the post-Roe era.
