See below for video of State Senator Jennifer McClellan on MSNBC this morning. As you know, McClellan recently won (OVERWHELMINGLY) the Democratic nomination for VA04, ollowing the untimely/tragic death of former Rep. Donald McEachin (D-VA04). Next, McClellan will be on the ballot in the February 21, 2023 special election against far-right-extremist Republican Leon Benjamin. To learn more about Sen. McClellan’s priorities, see her interview with Blue Virginia here. Also, check out what she had to say on MSNBC this morning, including:
- “I have spent 17 years working to help the people of central Virginia…I carried the Voting Rights Act of Virginia, Reproductive Health Protection Act, the [Virginia] Clean Economy Act. I’m going to bring the same passion for helping people and solving problems to Congress. And I will make history as the first Black woman [from Virginia]…and that is a perspective that is long overdue being had in our delegation.”
- “…as someone whose great grandfather had to take a literacy test in front of three white men to vouch for him just to register…my great grandmother couldn’t vote, my grandfather paid poll taxes, my mother didn’t vote until after 1965…I use those life experiences and that knowledge to address issues that often were ignored and be a voice for the voiceless in the state legislature. I’ll do the same thing in Congress. But it is hard to believe that in 2023 we’re still having firsts…”
