The “mainstream” media in Virginia has been doing what it always does with MAGA/extremist Republicans, which is to relentessly whitewash and “sanewash” them – last year, with Republicans like Winsome Earle-Sears, John Reid and Jason Miyares, and this year, with Rep. Rob Wittman in VA01, Rep. Jen Kiggans in VA02, Rep. John McGuire in VA05, Rep. Ben Cline in VA06, and most definitely with the VA GOP’s 2026 U.S. Senate nominee, Bert Mizusawa.
In the case of Mizusawa, right here on Blue Virginia, we posted multiple times about this guy’s extremism (see Audio: Favorite for the VA GOP’s 2026 U.S. Senate Nomination, Bert Mizusawa, Pushes Unconstitutional Third Trump Term and Wants Taxpayers to Fund Trump’s Corrupt Ballroom and Video: Frontrunner for 2026 VA GOP U.S. Senate Nomination Calls Birthright Citizenship “a post-Civil War loophole”, for instance) – yet not a single Virginia political “mainstream” news outlet picked up on this insanity…instead continuing to whitewash and sanewash this guy blandly as having “centered his campaign on national security, military experience and reducing the size of the federal intelligence bureaucracy while highlighting his service in the Army.” Utterly disgraceful excuse for “journalism,” but that’s how the “mainstream” media rolls. UGH.
Anyway, see below for a press release from the Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA) about Mizusawa’s “bizarre CNN interview” yesterday evening, in which he *continued to defend* the idea of Trump being constitutionally able to serve a third term as president. Hell, even Jake Friggin’ Tapper had to call out Mizusawa for this one, which really says something. As for DPVA, Chair Lamont Bagby nails it:
“Bert Mizusawa is the only candidate in the entire country talking about a third term for Donald Trump right now. It is clear that he is running for an appointment to the Trump administration, not to represent Virginia in the United States Senate.
Mizusawa has already said he sent the White House an idea for how Donald Trump could serve a third term. Yesterday, he continued to argue that Trump could serve a third term. This insanity is just simply below the discourse of anybody running for a position of public trust.”
Let’s see if the “mainstream” media can bring itself to report on that – but don’t hold your breath, as they remain TERRIFIED of the right wing, and specifically of being accused of “liberal bias,” blah blah blah. In the meantime, make sure you vote EARLY, preferably IN-PERSON, to releect Sen. Mark Warner, preferably by a huge margin (62%-38% or whatever would be awesome!) over this Mizusawa nutjob!
SHOCKING VIDEO: Bert Mizusawa Defends a Third Trump Term in Bizarre CNN Interview
Richmond, VA – Republican U.S. Senate nominee Bert Mizusawa defended his argument about presidential term limits during an interview yesterday with CNN’s
Jake Tapper, saying he would not rule out Donald Trump serving a third term.
Tapper played audio from a June event in which Mizusawa said he had forwarded an idea to the White House about how Trump could constitutionally serve a third term.
Asked whether such a route remained constitutionally possible and whether Trump should serve another term, Mizusawa characterized his earlier remarks as a legal point. When Tapper pressed him about the constitutional limit, Mizusawa responded: “You can serve for more than two terms. You cannot be elected to a third term.” He cited Gerald Ford’s unelected presidency as an example. Mizusawa did not explain the specific proposal he said he had sent to the White House.
The Constitution’s 22nd Amendment states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” The 12th Amendment separately makes anyone constitutionally ineligible for the presidency ineligible for the vice presidency.
