Memo: In Final Days, Cuccinelli Back to Career-Long Focus Restricting Women’s Health

Memo: In Final Days, Cuccinelli Back to Career-Long Focus Restricting Women’s Health

During this campaign, Cuccinelli has attempted to whitewash his career-long record of focusing on restricting women’s health care decisions and outlawing abortion.  For voters and Cuccinelli himself, this week has seen a return to his true extreme views and rhetoric.

On Monday, in a Washington Post profile, a radical anti-abortion activist friend of Cuccinelli’s predicted that Cuccinelli would enact his agenda if elected as Governor: “If the social issues work their way to his desk, he’ll move forward on his principles.”

That same Post profile had Cuccinelli effectively admitting that he focused on economic issues, “well, during the campaign.”

On Monday evening, NBC 12 reported on a speech Cuccinelli gave just last year where he predicted punishment against America for allowing women to make their own decisions about abortion. Cuccinelli said, “Given that God does judge nations, it's amazing that abortion has run as far and foully as it has, without what I would consider to be a greater imposition of judgment on this country Who knows what the future holds”

Mid-week, Cuccinelli’s top current surrogate said – at an event for Cuccinelli – that he “did not back down” from comparing America to Nazi Germany because of women’s access to legal abortion and accused America of engaging in a “holocaust.” Cuccinelli refused to distance himself from those remarks.

And just last night, NBC 4 in Washington reported that Cuccinelli defended his offensive “God judges nations” comment by asserting a connection between slavery and women being able to make their own health care decisions.

That follows up on a Charlottesville TV station report from yesterday morning on Cuccinelli also defending his “God judges nations” comments.

While Cuccinelli has spent this campaign pretending to care about jobs and education, those who know him best – his longtime allies and longtime adversaries – agree that Cuccinelli is always most focused on his own extreme agenda of restricting women’s health care access.

This week, Cuccinelli once again showed his true focus.

Background

Cuccinelli Warned of Divine Retribution for Abortion—“Given that God Does Judge Nations, It’s Amazing that Abortion Has Run as Far and Foully as It Has Without What I Would Consider to be a Greater Imposition of Judgment Upon This Country”

In October 2013, NBC 12 reported, “Then later on in the speech, which also touched on gay marriage and other social issues, Cuccinelli gets very specific about his view of God's review of the United States as it relates to to its abortion policies. ‘Really, Given that God does judge nations, it's amazing that abortion has run as far and foully as it has, without what I would consider to be a greater imposition of judgment on this country,’ Cuccinelli said. ‘Who knows what the future holds?’” [NBC 12, 10/14/13Video

NBC 4: When Asked to Clarify His Statement that ‘God Would Judge America on the Issue of Abortion,’  “Cuccinelli Compared His View of Abortion to Abraham Lincoln’s View of Slavery”

In October 2013, NBC 4’s Julie Carey reported, “Well Republican candidate for governor Ken Cuccinelli has never tried to hide the fact that he is an enormous opponent of abortion. But Democrats say his latest comments go too far. Democrat have hit Ken Cuccinelli harder on his pro-life viewpoint than any other issue. Earlier this week, they spotlighted a 2012 speech given to the Christian Life Summit in which Cuccinelli talked about how God would judge America on the issue of abortion…Today Democrats spotlighted brand new comments that came when an online TV show host asked Cuccinelli to explain what he had meant, and Cuccinelli compared his view of abortion to Abraham Lincoln’s view of slavery.” [NBC 4, 10/17/13, Video

Cuccinelli AGAIN Warned God Would Punish the Country for Abortion

In October 2013 on a campaign stop, Cuccinelli repeated his claim that God would punish the country for abortion. WCAV reported:

REPORTER: When asked about it during his campaign stop, Cuccinelli didn’t back down from the statement.

CUCCINELLI: Any time that we get on a wrong track as a country, there are consequences. And you can take that in any policy at all. [WCAV, 10/17/13, Video

Duggar Clarified That He Was Indeed Comparing the US to Nazi Germany’s Holocaust
According to the Daily Press, ““Ken Cuccinelli needs to immediately ask his surrogate to leave Virginia,” Schwerin continued. “Mr. Duggar's divisive, hurtful, and extreme rhetoric has no place in this campaign for Governor.” Asked about his earlier decision to employ the holocaust metaphor Duggar did not back down. “Let me clarify,” he said. “We have since 1973 (when Roe v. Wade was decided) had 55 million abortions, so what we have going on is a baby holocaust,”Duggar said.” [Daily Press, 11/15/13]

Washington Post Profile on Cuccinelli: “The Middle Is Not Where He Wants To Be”

In October 2013, the Washington Post profile stated, “If Cuccinelli is on the wrong end of a 39-1 vote, or if he stays in place even as much of the country shifts, as he has on the idea that homosexuality is “intrinsically wrong,” he feels no pressure to conform. The middle is not where he wants to be.” [Washington Post, 10/14/13]

Key Cuccinelli Anti-Abortion Strategist: “If The Social Issues Work Their Way To His Desk, He’ll Move Forward On His Principles”

In October 2013, the Washington Post profile quoted long-time Cuccinelli ally Terry Wear, “He never sought office to have a job. He was always more interested in moving an agenda. His goal is to live the views of his faith. Right now, the principal concern is creating jobs. But if the social issues work their way to his desk, he’ll move forward on his principles. We get what we can get today, and we come back for more next week and next month and next year.” [Washington Post, 10/14/13]

Republican Delegate and Cuccinelli Supporter: It Will Be Hard to Convince Voters Cuccinelli Isn’t Radical

In October 2013, the Washington Post profile stated, “Republicans had problems with Cuccinelli, too. Del. Dave Albo, his colleague from Fairfax, supports his bid for governor, but says it will be hard to convince some voters that Cuccinelli is anything but a radical.” [Washington Post, 10/14/13]

Former Republican Delegate on Cuccinelli: “Would Not Vote with His Own Party and Wouldn’t Work At All With The Democrats”

In October 2013, the Washington Post profile stated, “But another Fairfax Republican, Vince Callahan, who spent 40 years in the House and retired in 2008, sees an ideologue ‘who would not vote with his own party and wouldn’t work at all with the Democrats. He was off on a little island by himself. He’s against government. To get things done, you have to work with people. But we never saw him at night. You don’t go to a bar and have a drink with him.’” [Washington Post, 10/14/13]

Former Republican Senator on Cuccinelli: “For Somebody Who Calls Himself a Conservative, He’s Awfully Eager to Impose Himself in People’s Private Lives”

In October 2013, the Washington Post profile stated, “So has Russ Potts, a longtime GOP senator from Winchester who retired in 2008. ‘For somebody who calls himself a conservative, he’s awfully eager to impose himself in people’s private lives,’ Potts says. ‘I sat him down and said, ‘Look, Ken, you get more with honey than you do with vinegar,’ and he just shook his head.’” [Washington Post, 10/14/13]

Virginia News Headlines: Friday Morning

13

Here are a few Virginia and national news headlines, political and otherwise, for Friday, October 18. Also, check out the video “Day 18 of 21 Days of Cuccinelli’s Extremism: LifeSiteNews.com” in the comments section of this post, as it’s very revealing of Ken Cuccinelli’s extremist views. Last but not least, watch the video – courtesy of Crooks and Liars – of one-man freak show (and Ken Cuccinelli surrogate) Jim Bob Duggar TOTALLY flubbing an interview. It would be hilarious if it weren’t so pathetic on all levels, including reflective of Ken Cuccinelli. Note that Duggar is the same lunatic who – in addition to his career having NINETEEN kids (overpopulation? who cares!!!!) – recently compared the U.S. to Nazi Germany. Just another Ken Cuccinelli supporter. Ugh.

*For GOP establishment, more soul-searching ahead (The answer is clear: boot the Tea Party extremists and get back to being a sane, mainstream, “limited government,” “low taxes” party. Right now, they’re not.)

*Gerson: Republicans must recognize reality (“Conservatives who are not sobered are not serious.”)

*GOP’s McConnell promises no more shutdowns over ObamaCare (Only one problem: McConnell doesn’t have any control over lunatic House Republicans, maybe not even over Sen. Ted Cruz.)

*The GOP’s immigration trouble (“By blocking a compromise, the party is backing itself into a corner.”)

*Many couldn’t wait to get back to work (“At government agencies, top officials welcome employees and reinforce the message: ‘You’ve been missed.'” Agreed!)

*Republicans’ devastating defeat (“President Obama won a total victory, but there’s no sign that the far-right zealots have learned anything.”)

*Cuccinelli pays the price for the GOP’s ‘truce strategy’ on abortion (Hitting yet ANOTHER new low, the Bezos, nee Kaplan, nee Washington Post prints an op-ed by the head of an anti-LGBT hate group, arguing that Cuccinelli should be much more clear about his anti-choice extremism. I agree – “Let Cooch Be Cooch” and let’s see how the election turns out. LOL)

*Virginia Democrats attack Cuccinelli for comparing abortion to slavery, Civil War (Not sure how it’s an “attack” to decry Cuccinelli’s own, horrible words.)

*Clinton’s 1st 2013 Campaign Trip Aims to Rally Virginia Women

*Another McAuliffe ad dubs Cuccinelli ‘too extreme’ on divorce, climate change, the pill (All true.)

*Since shutdown, Cuccinelli outspent 2-to-1 on air

*Poll: Amid shutdown, Republican falls further behind in race for Va. governor

*Jackson official urges backers to support Cuccinelli, too (“A campaign official for E.W. Jackson, the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, expressed concern this week that some of Jackson’s supporters don’t intend to vote for Ken Cuccinelli, the party’s nominee for governor, because he distanced himself from the Chesapeake pastor after Jackson’s nomination in May.” Hahahaha.)

*Jackson’s stump stories of childhood deprivation challenged by acquaintances (“…recently, vivid details of his escape from deprivation in a Chester, Pa., foster home – the emotional core of his stump speech – have been challenged by two women who were there.” More evidence that E.W. Jackson is utterly unhinged.)

*Cuccinelli certain he can prevail after a Virginia campaign filled with ‘lying’ (He’s completely insane. In what conceivable way has there been “lying” about his extremist beliefs and actions as Attorney General, not to mention his offensive words – many of which are on video, so you can see them for yourself, etc?)

*Virginia election officials purging almost 40,000 voters (“On Oct. 3, the state Democratic Party filed paperwork seeking an injunction to halt the purge. But on Tuesday, the Board of Elections said it had already nixed 38,870 names from voter rolls after county registrars reviewed the initial lists.” WTF?)

*Hearing today on Va. Democrats’ purged voter lawsuit (“A federal judge will hear arguments today from Virginia Democrats who want the State Board of Elections to reinstate nearly 40,000 voters who were recently purged from the voter rolls.”)

*Federal parks and other sites in Virginia returning to normal

*McDonnell says state has restored rights of record 6,800 felons (That’s good, but there are lots more to go. Also, stop making it harder for people to vote in Virginia!)

*Altria donates $1 million to Science Museum of Virginia (Thanks, I guess, but you’re still a horrible company.)

*Bryant best choice in House District 78

*D.C. area forecast: Changeable but mostly comfortable weather ahead

*Krauthammer: Let’s stop using ‘Redskins’ (First time I’ve agreed with Krauthammer about anything in years!)

*Virginia newspaper drops Redskins name from its pages (Now, for the Bezos/Kaplan/Washington Post?)

New Poll: McAuliffe 46%-Cuccinelli 38%-Sarvis 9%

3

Politico reports.

Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe has an 8-point lead in the Virginia governor’s race, a new poll found, the latest evidence of his advantage with less than three weeks left until Election Day.

The NBC4/NBC News/Marist poll found McAuliffe winning 46 percent of likely voters, compared with 38 percent for GOP Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and 9 percent for libertarian Robert Sarvis. If the election were a two-way race between McAuliffe and Cuccinelli, McAuliffe’s lead would increase to 9 points, 52 percent to 43 percent.

Compared to the last NBC/Marist poll, which was prior to the government shutdown, this poll marks a widening of McAuliffe’s lead, from 5 points then to 8 points now. No wonder why Cuccinelli’s flailing around, throwing anything and everything at the wall (e.g., this) and hoping it sticks. Total #FAIL

P.S. The last pol=l Cuccinelli led was back in mid July, and that was Roanoke College so not a serious poll. Other than that, you have to go back to late April/early May for the last Cooch lead.

Jennifer Boysko in “Statistical Tie” with Del. Tom Rust

1

From the Boysko for Delegate campaign:

16 points. That is the incredible swing we have seen in the polls! We just received our latest poll results and we are in statistical tie with our opponent. That's right folks, we are neck in neck with an entrenched Republican incumbent. We are 19 days out and the race is closer than ever. Will you give $10, $15, $25 now and help me keep moving forward?

Our state legislature has been in the clutches of right-wing Republicans for too long and this is our chance to make up serious ground. From ultrasounds to banning gay marriage, it's been rough here. I feel confident about Terry's chances at winning the governorship, but I worry about the house members he'll have to work with once he's there. Because my 86th District voted 61% for President Obama and Tim Kaine last year, we know the Democrats are there, we just have to get them out to vote. Your contribution of $25, $50, or $75 today will help us get out the vote for all Democrats.

We have moved this race 16 points since last summer and the momentum is on our side. Obviously, I need help to close in during the final weeks and I am asking everyone I can think of for help. We're close, but we're not there yet. Will you help us get there? Donate now and help me continue reaching voters. The finish line is in sight and I need your help to get there.

Thank you for you continued support!

Kindest regards,

Jennifer

Ken Cuccinelli Jumps the Shark, Claims “Terry McAuliffe to Be Hillary’s Vice President in 2016”

0

Please tell me this is a joke, and that Ken Cuccinelli doesn't think his supporters are THIS stupid. I mean, seriously, the chances of Terry McAuliffe being Hillary Clinton's running mate in 2016 are about 0.0000000000000000%, give or take a zero. WTF?

Subject:   Terry McAuliffe to Be Hillary’s Vice President in 2016
From:   "Ken Cuccinelli" <

Dear Friend —

Earlier this week, Bill Clinton sent a nationwide e-mail to Democrats across the country asking them to donate to Terry McAuliffe’s campaign. Hillary and Bill Clinton are both holding a series of events and fundraisers for McAuliffe in the final weeks of the campaign.

Now, news is breaking that there are already whispers of Terry McAuliffe making a Vice Presidential run in 2016 alongside Hillary Clinton. Think I'm joking? Read yesterday's "Washington Secrets" column in the Washington Examiner and see for yourself.

Terry served as the Clintons attack dog for years, and even sold the Lincoln Bedroom in the White House – so it’s no surprise then that he’d try to buy his way into the Governor’s mansion to use it as a stepping-stone to the White House.

With news like this coming out of Virginia, this race is more important than ever – not just for the future of our Commonwealth, but also for the future of the Republican Party and conservatives across the country. We cannot let the Clintons and Terry McAuliffe buy their way into the Virginia Governor’s Mansion at the expense of the Virginian people.

Will you chip in $25 or more to help me fight back against the liberal agenda of the Clintons and Terry McAuliffe?

Unlike Terry McAuliffe, I’ve been fighting for Virginia my entire life. I have a positive vision for the future of our great Commonwealth, and as Governor,  I will fight for you, Friend.

I am confident we will win on November 5, but I need your help to make that happen.

On to Victory,

Ken Cuccinelli

PS – Terry McAuliffe is whispered to be Hillary Clinton's running mate in the 2016 Presidential Election. Terry see's the Governorship as a stepping stone to the White House, and we must stop him. Will you chip in $25 or more to my campaign to help me fight back?

Two of Cuccinelli’s Closest Allies Defend Government Shutdown as “Model,” “Legitimate”

1

First, Cuccinelli’s pal Ted Cruz (about whom Cuccinelli has said we need a lot more Ted Cruzes in Congress) says shutting down the government is “the model going forward to defeat Obamacare.”

Second, Cuccinelli’s friend Marco Rubio says shutting down the government to try and defund “Obamacare” was totally “legitimate.”

And, of course, Cuccinelli will be campaigning with Rand Paul, who voted Wednesday night to keep the government shut down, to ruing the U.S. credit rating, and to trash the U.S. economy.

Cuccinelli’s Extreme Contributors #2: “Father’s Rights” Activist Who Compared Divorce to Slavery

3

Yesterday, I posted part 1 of a series on recent extremist and/or crazy donors to Ken Cuccinelli’s campaign. That one was about Philip Zodhiates of “Response Unlimited,” which offers direct mail lists by white supremacists, vigilantes, anti-Semites, and other fine folks.

Today, we turn our focus to one Ronald K. Henry, who donated $1,000 to Cuccinelli on 9/24/13 (and $1,200 to date). Who is Ronald K. Henry, you ask? Here are a few “highlights” to give you an idea:

*He is a so-called fathers’-rights activist.” According to this article in the Huffington Post, the “fathers’ rights” movement – to which Ken Cuccinelli has close ties, “contends that men are frequently the victims of false domestic violence accusations, and its activists have lobbied against no-fault divorce, which allows a woman to divorce her spouse without having to prove adultery or physical abuse.” The article also notes that “Cuccinelli offered two bills as a state senator in line with the movement’s objectives: one that would have prevented a parent from obtaining a no-fault divorce if the other parent objects, and another that would have encouraged judges to penalize a woman who asked for a no-fault divorce in custody and visitation battles.” Lovely, eh?

*Henry wrote that Men suffer slave-era cruelties. and about DIVORCE REFORM AND THE FATHER’S MOVEMENT:

The rise of divorce as a mass phenomenon created a new social category — the “thrown-away” or “driven-away” father. For the first time in history outside the institution of slavery, large numbers of fit, loving parents were involuntarily separated from their children by force of law.

*Henry called child support in the United States “an obvious sham,” a “disaster,” and “the most onerous form of debt collection practiced in the United States.”

*He called a woman a “cuckold” (didn’t this word go out of fashion in the 1800s or so?), and asserted, “We live in odd times now that what used to be a matter of shame for a woman is now used to win money for child support.”

Well, alrighty then. Hmmm. Yeah, I’m kinda speechless at this point.

Anyway, this guy is a donor to/strong supporter of Ken Cuccinelli’s. Also worth noting, he has donated 100% of his Virginia political contributions over the years to Republicans, including House of Delegates candidate Dave LaRock and Del. Barbara Comstock. He’s also given thousands of dollars to Republicans at the federal level. Shocker, huh?

A Competitive Race in Virginia Beach?

2

(Note that this is a 51.1% Kaine district, so definitely winnable for Democrats, especially against a Tea Party extremist like Scott Taylor! – promoted by lowkell)

As we make our way through the final 19 days of the campaign season, one race worth keeping an eye on is located in a very unlikely spot for a Democratic pick-up in the House of Delegates this cycle. The 85th District, which is comprised entirely of precincts within Virginia Beach, is an open seat with the retirement of long-time incumbent Delegate Bob Tata (R). The vacant seat will be occupied next January by either Democrat and long-time Kempsville resident Bill Dale, or perpetual Republican candidate and Tea Party favorite Scott Taylor.

Bill Dale has been a resident of Virginia Beach for nearly three decades, and has been actively involved in the community. His work in the community includes helping to start the Virginia Beach Coalition for the Homeless and the Virginia Beach Human Rights Commission. Dale was a priest at the Church of the Ascension in Virginia Beach before retiring in 1998 to marry his wife, Paula. For the past 15 years, Bill has worked as a financial advisor for UBS in Virginia Beach, where he manages nearly $200 million for his clients. Bill’s top priorities in Richmond will be:

*Continuing to invest in transportation and infrastructure projects (including expanding light rail to the Virginia Beach oceanfront)

*Ensuring that the General Assembly removes itself from women’s reproductive healthcare decisions

*Enacting early voting in Virginia

Dale’s opponent, Scott Taylor, is known mostly for being the President of OPSEC, where he spent most of 2012 campaigning against President Obama’s re-election. Additionally, Taylor is a regular contributor on Fox News and participated in a campaign rally with Michele Bachmann just last year. These tactics have led him to being a Tea Party favorite, and his financial report shows a sizable number of contributions from Tea Party-affiliated officials such as Eric Cantor. Taylor has previously run for Mayor of Virginia Beach (2008) and for U.S. Congress (VA-2), losing each handily.

More troubling than his political background, however, is Taylor’s financial background. Since 2010, Taylor has been sued three separate times for walking out on his financial obligations, totaling $1.4 million dollars in court-ordered payments. The most recent case saw Taylor ordered to appear in court just days from his Republican Primary election for the House of Delegates this summer, as Taylor had stopped paying rent for his gym franchise in Landstown Commons in Virginia Beach. Just days before the court hearing, Taylor opened a new business and sold the gym equipment to himself and opened a new gym a few miles down the street.  Taylor’s repeated shady business dealings combined with his rigid Tea Party ideology make him unfit to succeed Delegate Tata and represent the 85th District in Virginia Beach.

Bill Dale (D) has already piled up an impressive list of endorsements, including:

The Virginian-Pilot

Hampton Roads REALTORs Association

Virginia Education Association

Virginia AFL-CIO

Virginia Chapter Sierra Club

SMART (Sheet, Metal, Air, and Transportation Union)

Additionally, Bill Dale received a 100% score on his NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia survey and was named a Champion of Women’s Health by Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia.

When the polls close at 7:00pm on November 5, all eyes will be on the top of the ticket as Terry McAuliffe, Ralph Northam, and Mark Herring look to complete a Democratic sweep in Virginia’s statewide offices (frankly, all eyes should be focused on the top of the ticket for obvious reasons). However, it is also critical that Democrats begin to make serious gains in the House of Delegates if they ever seek to regain control of the lower chamber of the General Assembly. Picking up a seat in an unlikely district would be a great value to increasing the Democratic Party’s brand in Virginia Beach, and would open the door for further gains in 2015.

HD-10: Randy Minchew Dodges, Ducks, Dips, Dives and Dodges on Education

0

At Tuesday morning’s Chamber of Commerce debate in Lansdowne, I directly asked Republican Delegate Randy Minchew if he supported his ticketmate Ken Cuccinelli’s education plan. According to estimates, that plan would cut an estimated $22.1 million from Loudoun schools, as well as $5.9 million from Frederick schools and $770,000 from Clarke schools. Those cuts are projected to displace over 8100 students and result in over 450 teacher layoffs in the three counties.

In his 90-second reply and in several subsequent comments, Minchew completely ignored the question and critical issue at hand.

We need a Delegate who will stand up against the Cuccinelli-Minchew education cuts. That wasn’t a hard question, and this isn’t a hard issue. In this economy, education is a more critical priority than ever. My opponent was asked a simple question, and he failed the test. If that’s the approach he’s going to take with our fundamental concerns, then our children’s futures are in jeopardy.

We can’t let that happen. We need to prepare our kids for the jobs of tomorrow, not put them at a disadvantage from the moment they step in our schools. Students, parents and teachers in Loudoun County are already struggling to deal with the cuts made by the Board of Supervisors, which have caused unsafe conditions for our kids. The last thing we need is to gut our public schools even further.

Randy Minchew has once again turned his back on our community’s needs to follow Ken Cuccinelli’s ideological agenda. We don’t need a partisan in the House of Delegates – we need a problem-solver. As Delegate, I’ll focus on delivering results for our kids and our community by working across the aisle to improve the STEM-Health curriculum in our schools, to expand vocational training programs, and to build partnerships with private companies that can offer their expertise to help educate our students.
