Video: On Abortion, Virginia LG Winsome Sears “the mother is not having a lizard, she’s having a human being” and “The blood running through the veins of the baby don’t [sic] belong to her, it’s not her blood”

See below for video of Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Sears, in which she goes on an unhinged rant against abortion. Check this out, and consider how literally a single Virginian could have voted for this extremist nutjob.

“Why are we having these many abortions? Let’s come back to we’re talking about two lives, not just one, because the mother is not having a lizard, she’s having a human being who’s half part of her. And the baby has its own body and the blood that is running through the baby isn’t even her blood, so there’s two separate bodies.” – Winsome Sears

“The abortuaries [sic] sell baby parts….barbarism…The baby isn’t even her body, she’s got her own body. The blood running through the veins of the baby don’t [sic] belong to her, it’s not her blood.” – Winsome Sears

By the way, of course most of this isn’t just unhinged, but of questionable validity. The big one, of course – as this fact check finds – is that there “isn’t evidence that Planned Parenthood or its affiliates are selling ‘body parts’ or fetal tissue for profit.” Also see this article, which explains how “once again…an investigation into Planned Parenthood’s alleged sale of fetal tissue came up empty” and how “state investigations have yet to find any evidence that Planned Parenthood was selling or profiting off fetal tissue.” As for the “blood running through the veins…doesn’t belong to her” comment, this is how it works:

During pregnancy, the unborn baby (fetus) depends on its mother for nourishment and oxygen. Since the fetus doesn’t breathe air, their blood circulates differently than it does after birth:

      • The placenta is the organ that develops and implants in the mother’s womb (uterus) during pregnancy. The unborn baby is connected to the placenta by the umbilical cord.
      • All the necessary nutrition, oxygen, and life support from the mother’s blood goes through the placenta and to the baby through blood vessels in the umbilical cord.
      • Waste products and carbon dioxide from the baby are sent back through the umbilical cord blood vessels and placenta to the mother’s circulation to be eliminated.

While still in the uterus, the baby’s lungs aren’t being used. The baby’s liver isn’t fully developed. Circulating blood bypasses the lungs and liver by flowing in different pathways and through special openings called shunts.

So it’s complicated. But one thing is clear: what Sears actually appears to be arguing here is that the mother has zero right to bodily autonomy as soon as she gets pregnant, and that she shouldn’t have any right to terminate the pregnancy. Is there any other reasonable conclusion from what Sears is arguing?
