Virginia State Sen. Creigh Deeds (D-SD25) showed up last night for the “Senior Statesmen of Virginia” debate in Albemarle County. As did Democratic SD17 nominee Amy Laufer. As did Deeds’ Independent challenger, Elliott Harding. As did…whoops, 17th district State Sen. Bryce Reeves (R) was invited but chose to go AWOL instead of showing up and trying to defend his godawful, far-right record.
What wouldn’t Reeves want to defend in public? Perhaps he wouldn’t want to defend his homophobic attacks against his colleague, Sen. Adam Ebbin? Or perhaps he wouldn’t want to defend his unhinged/lunatic attacks against Laufer, such as that she’s supposedly part of a “master plan,” a “pawn in the big scheme of what the left is trying to do.” Uhhh… Or perhaps he wouldn’t want to defend his raging xenophobia? Or perhaps he wouldn’t want to defend his gun nuttery and all the $$$ he’s taken from the NRA? Or perhaps he wouldn’t want to defend his zero rating from NARAL and his 100% rating from the extremist Family Foundation of Virginia? All in a district that went for Tim Kaine 52%-46% last year, and which was about evenly split between Ralph Northam and Ed Gillespie in 2017? So…it’s no wonder why he doesn’t want to show up. Voters, in contrast, should show up in droves on November 5 and elect Amy Laufer, who will show up every day in Richmond and work her tail off for ALL the people of her district.
